Sarah-wasn't sure if you saw my post below but Robyn said that she got alot of her ideas for her church from you so was hoping I could get some info from you!
Here's my original post:
Has anyone helped their church become "greener"? Or have a church that is? Chris and I along with one of the Pastor's are starting a Creation Care team at church and while we have many ideas we are looking to see what other churches do and how they got it started up.
And Robyn/Sarah-would either of you be willing to share what church? The Pastor had said something about also reaching out to the churches himself to get other info! You can PM me if you want! THanks!!
Re: Sarahlindsay & Robyn
Oh sorry, I missed that post!
I am co-chair of our church's Creation Care team so I can probably help to some extent. Some things we have recently put into place:
- cloth napkins and non-disposable plates/mugs for the Wednesday night dinners and other events (sometimes this isn't always followed, but it's an effort that most will get behind).
- Recycling with a rewards points program. We also had a "recycling competition" among the Sunday School classes to see who recycled the most materials over a certain period of time, and the winners got a party (helps increase awareness of the presence of recycling).
- mug raiser: members brought/donated their old or mismatched mugs and those are used at coffee hour instead of styrofoam cups
I'm happy to share - I go to First Covenant Church. 391-2747 and http://www.firstcovenantomaha.org/
