**Michelle**

hola!  So the catering biz is in desperate need of a website.  But I'm really only familiar with blogging platforms, I have no clue where to start for a "regular" website.  Any recommendations?

Re: **Michelle**

  • Are you looking for something you can build on your own? Or are you looking for a webhost that will hold a site that someone builds for you?

  • um.... I don't know?  I'm not *that* tech savvy, but if it's fairly user friendly, I suppose I could build my own?  I'm assuming that's cheaper than one that builds it for you?

  • Here's the site I'd recommend:

    http://www.dot5hosting.com/dot5/hosting.bml

They do both build-your-own in a drag and drop format, and also offer the option to have someone else build the site for you and upload.

This might be a good option for you since you're just starting out. That way you can build your own for now, and then as you grow, you can pay someone to build the site for you - all while keeping the same domain name and not having to worry about switching web hosts (which would be a PITA for both you and your website customers).

The drag and drop has a few different options: You can build through Weebly (easiest), Wordpress (a little more difficult) or Website Creator by CM4all (which I'm not familiar with).

The Weebly and Wordpress drag-and-drops offer pre-built templates that you can change colors and add your own information to. They are both pretty easy for someone not super acquainted with website building. They basically walk you through it.

The prices are very reasonable IMO, especially for what they offer (namely the unlimited bandwidth and storage). The customer service is REALLY awesome too, I've had to call them a few times and they're super helpful.

A 1 year plan is $6.95 per month and a 2 year plan is $5.95 per month. There are lesser time plans as well, but then you have to pay a domain name fee as well, so I'd recommend at least a 1 year plan if you go with this place.

If you have any questions, let me know, I'm glad to help!

  • awesome!  Thanks girl.  I've had a horrible experience with Weebly, I ditched them this summer for PLFF and switched to Wordpress, so I'll probably do that.  Love the idea of being able to grow with them without changing domains or anything.

    THANKS!!!

  • No problem! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to help.

The other host I'm familiar with is AT&T, but they are more expensive and their customer service sucks.

Maybe I could even eventually build you a website or something :)
