My camera situation prevents me from posting embarrassing pictures but believe me, the embarassment is there!
1. Coat closet - sure, there's coats in there. THere's also coolers, random clothes on the floor, wrapping paper, a cane (wtf? Where did that come from?), and a mess of scarves, hats and gloves that I have no chance at finding matching sets.
2. Linen closet - I try not to open it because Christmas ornaments will fall out - yes, I'm serious. There's other holiday stuff in there, spare toilet paper rolls, towels, rags, an overabundance of cleaning supplies because I never remember what I have on hand, blankets, picture frames, glasses from BB&B, etc.
3. Storage closet - old clothes that I swear some day I can fit into again (FYI, i probably can't), my DH's three big fish tanks that he wont' get rid of, old law school books, an old bookshelf, luggage, my wedding dress, all of it stacked to the ceiling.
4. My husband's office closet - not even touching it.
5. My office closet - two wooden trunks, more luggage, old picture frames, God knows what else...
6. Master bedroom closet - a mess of infinite proportions. Clothes I haven't worn in ages, old shoes that I'm too embarrassed to wear yet can't get rid of, lots of purses I haven't used, etc.
This is going to be a hell of a week and I can't WAIT! Cleaning will feel so good!!!
You just made me feel a whole lot better. Thank you. :-)
I'm posting pics of our bedroom closet tonight. My camera died after Neena's closet.

Of course! Have any tips for us?! :-)

Mine look SOOOO similar. It is like we have the same closets.
I will try to take pics. Not sure I'll get to all of them cause I'm trying to finish the nursery before track coaching starts up next week but I will try!
If I haven't worn it within the last year, I ditched it. That always helps me get rid of stuff that I have some sort of strange attachment to!
For H's closet, my tip is to decide to go look at a house he loves and put an offer, meaning you might need to sell your house. He loves the house so much that he decided to get his closets in order for us to possibly put our house on the market. Definitely not transferrable advice, sorry!!
I'll play this week! I've been cleaning out our closets for the past month but my bedroom closet still needs to be done.
It's impossible to get a picture of the whole thing since it has sliding doors so only half can be accessed at a time, which is a huge PITA. I wish they were bi-fold doors instead.

The top shelf. I don't think I can really do much to change this shelf unless I buy some storage bins which won't be happening anytime soon.

The storage bin thing is not going to happen for us either because our budget is super tight right now. Does anybody have any tips for storage that don't require spending money?

I was wondering this same thing. Best I could think of was shoe boxes, but even those I usually toss after a short while.
Plus, storage bins on the top shelf of a closet can be a PITA if its stuff you dont' use often...outta sight, outta mind, KWIM? And if I don't use something often enough to store up there, I end up asking myself if I really need it...vicious cycle.
Any old boxes/cardboard you have laying around to make dividers. Unless it's a clear box or you put pictures on the outside, I wouldn't recommend boxes on top shelves. You'd never open them again!
I can't reach our top shelf w/o DH or a step stool, so I try to put my out of season clothes on the top shelf since I won't need them for a few months.
My Blog
Okay, so this may seem like nothing but I still participated.
I did my linen/cleaning closet. We moved in here before Z was born so I've sort of kept everything moving the same way, now with Z in mind I moved cleaning supplies up, towels down. I also like saving the vinyl zipper things that comforters/sheets come in for storing misc. sheets/curtains/fabrics that aren't in use frequently.
