Twilight fans, I have a ?
I've read the first Twilight book but have not seen any of the movies. Would I understand what's going on in the new movie that's coming out? A friend really wants to go see it, but I am just wondering if I'll spend the whole movie being confused. Thanks for any input!
Re: Twilight fans, I have a ?
I would say Yes, you may be confused unless your friend has updated you on the movies/books.
But there are alot of people that I know of that have not read the books and gone to see the movies or vice versa. If you can, I would say try to watch the other 3 movies.
If not, just go with your friend and have fun! She can explain it to you.
If I were you I would at least watch the 2nd and 3rd movies first, if not all 3. I think a lot happens in New Moon (although not my favorite book) and Eclipse that has gotten things to this point that you will need to know.
This.
my read shelf:
See, I don't really think reading the books is necessary and I really don't think you missed that much information by not reading the books. I'd try to see the movies if you can but otherwise, I'd just google or look on wikipedia for summarys of New Moon and Eclipse.
I seriously think leaving out something that is going to happen in the last one that happened in Eclipse which should have been explained was a big mess up. People are going to react badly if they didn't read the books...kind of like another character does.

I don't think I know what you're talking about?
But yes, I don't think these books are all that complicated. I mean, people have managed to see the HP movies without reading the books and those books are about a million times more complicated and intricate. Twilight books are pretty simple imo.
****Spoilers for books 2 and 3****
What more would you add to New Moon and Eclipse then this?
New Moon
*Cullen family leaves, Edward thinks he is protecting Bella
*Bella pouts around for months
*Bella becomes friends with Jacob Black
*Bella learns Jacob and other friends are turning into werewolves due to a genetic tribal thing that happens to protect the tribe from vampires
*Bella throws herself off cliff, Edward thinks she is dead, Jacob saves her
*Edward goes to Volturi (Italian vampire police / government types) to die
*Bella saves him
Eclipse
*Edward is back. Jacob and Edward fight over Bella all book.
*Imprinting - We learn that some werewolves imprint which basically means that they fall in love on the spot (the first time they see the partner) Sometimes this happens when they partner is very young. They will essentially be brother like to the partner until they are of age.
*Bad guy's girlfriend from book 1 comes after Bella
*Big fight - no one but the bad guys dies
*Volturi come at last moment. They want Bella to become a vampire because she knows all their secrets. They say that Edward needs to change her soon.
*Bella wants to do it with Edward before she becomes a vampire, Edward wants to marry her first.
And that's pretty much it. Of course, there are lots more minor details and I think you'd probably get a better explanation on wikipedia but I don't think I'm missing much of the basics.
