Spouses get to go to my H's holiday party this year, and they do fun fancy parties (unlike my office where I have to organize half of it and we just set up tables next to the printer's in the production area to eat). It's going to be at the Bellevue Art Museum because the featured exhibit is for George Nelson, who was the design director for Herman Miller. (H's company is an HM distributor.) Since the art will be mid-century styling, H suggested I could find some fun Man Men-esque holiday clothes to wear (since I like to be silly and kind of themed for stuff).
So, I don't want a full on retro/reproduction dress, just something that's inspired by or reminiscent of that early 60s, Mad Men style. The caveat: can't cost more than the $130 range.
(And I shouldn't even spend that much) and definitely not "costumey" looking, but something I can easily rewear.
Re: Help me shop?
I'm on Piperlime right now (after BR turned up a bust, unless you are a size 0, then they still have some dresses on sale from the autumn Mad Men line), and I found this dress (it's only available in a size 8, not sure your size):

Modcloth can also be pretty good with that kind of style, but the clothes are in Junior sizes, so it's good to order a size up imo.

There are tons and tons of vintage inspired dresses on Modcloth.

Thanks! Not sure what size I am anymore, I want to pretend I'm an 8, but I think I'm more 10/12 right now. Pffft. LOL
I kinda like that goldish toned one, I'll have to think about that. I'm wondering if maybe I should go with a high waisted pencil skirt and then a fun bright shirt - BR is showing a cute red polka-dotted sheer one.
I love the mod for you dress!
I've seen some good thrift store options. If you go that route, look for natural waist, (often accented with a belt or similar), a full skirt, knee-length, along with the simple curved arms and neck. A silk neck scarf and modern earrings make good accessories, as does a short strand of large pearls.
Maybe a black sheath dress with a pretty silk scarf?
This one would fit the period, but is also contemporary and would be easy to wear again: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/suzi-chin-for-maggy-boutique-twist-neck-belted-sheath-dress/3197723?origin=category&resultback=1360
Some others that could work:

I like the second link a lot. The one in brown? It's really cute.
