QOTD Monday (turkey day)

1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have?

2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead?

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have?

Yes, but we also have a fried turkey. i would be fine if we just had the fried.

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead?

  • Yes, we have the traditional turkey, and I love it!

I'm very much a traditionalist for t-giving dinner and give the side-eye to any attempts to try new recipes. I basically want the same exact dinner I've had my entire life.

this is me, except for the roast turkey. i'll pass on that in exchange for fried turkey!

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have? when DH & spend thanksgiving just the two of us, we usually do baked mac & cheese.

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead? i come from a beef-loving family but since learning to make turkey myself, i like it more than i did when i was younger. i would definitely like to try deep fried turkey one day.

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have? Yes. We usually brine it, and we've fried it as well (the fried turkey was on top of the regular one).

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead? Pretty much only on Thanksgiving. I don't generally like turkey on sandwiches and stuff. My family used to also have a ham when we had big Thanksgivings with lots of people.

  • We go traditional.  Last year I brined it and it was good, not sure if it was so much better as to make it worth it but I also had meat thermometer issues that may have clouded my positive memory of that particular bird.

I do like turkey on Tday because I don't make it the rest of the year but I would be just as happy with a big ham too.  However for the rest of the family it is needed so I always make it.

  • 1. Yes, roast turkey. We brined it one year and I didn't think it was any better than the non-brined version.

    2. I wouldn't mind having ham and turkey (I love Honeybaked Ham), but I need turkey on Thanksgiving.

  • 1. Yes. Tradition all the way.

    2. Yes and no. I wish it wasn't so dry (depending on who cooks it!), but with some dietary (very low sodium) restrictions in the family, we can't brine it.

    This is exactly me.

One time my mom tried pulling the "lets try cornbread/sausage stuffing this year" and she had a riot on her hands.

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have?
Yep, if we are ever at my parents for Thanksgiving (which is rare since they live in FL and I would rather visit for xmas) they will make a fried turkey
    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead? it's a must for Thanskgiving. I wouldn't want anything else. I like it with all of the sides, but probably wouldn't like it very much just by itself.

  • 1. yes.  and this year we're doing a smoked turkey breast in addition.  back home, they usually do a roasted turkey & a deep fried turkey.

    2. YES. If cooked properly, turkey can be flavorful *and* moist.  The problem is most ppl don't cook it properly (over cook!) and it gives the bird a bad reputation.

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have? No, because we are generally not cooking for enough people. I've perfected a stuffed turkey breast instead.

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead? Yes, and if we were having more than 3 people, or if I could buy like a 7-pound turkey, I would roast one. But, as much as I like turkey, even leftover, I think that the leftovers from a 12-pound turkey would be a bit much.

Speaking of being traditional, a couple of years ago, most of my family was going to my aunt's in PA for Thanksgiving. My aunt sent out an email announcing that she was trying all new recipes for Thanksgiving, but if there was anything people absolutely wanted to let her know. She and my mom ended up in a huge email argument. It was ridiculous. I am all for tradition, but I do like to experiment a little - like maybe a new mashed potato technique or a new side dish.

  • 1.  We always do a traditional turkey.  We'll also usually make a small ham too.

    2.  I can't say I really like turkey... it's ok.  I always find that no matter who makes it that it always tends to be on the dry side.

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have?
Yes!  Roast turkey, all the way!

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead?

Yes!  I don't even mind if it's a little dry.  I do need to work on my technique a bit, though.  I think my bird could be a little more moist and flavorful.

I love Thanksgiving meal!  yum, yum.  :)

  • 1. Do you have a traditional roast turkey on Thanksgiving? If not, what do you have? Yes, I've always had roast turkey. Like others, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner.

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead? Yes, I love turkey! It's especially a treat since I rarely eat it the rest of the year. It doesn't bother me if it's a little dry- that's what gravy is for.
  • Yes, we have the traditional turkey, and I love it!  I make WAY more than needed because we love the leftovers!

  • We have the traditional roast turkey, and I like it, but only the dark meat.  The white meat tends to be too dry for me.

  • Like the PP....we fried our turkey. not only does it taste awesome but frees up the oven so i don't have to deal with trying to figure out how to time everything.

We usually have a traditional roasted turkey at my mom's, but tried a brine last year when I made it.  I'm sure we will be back to traditional this year.

    2. Do you like roast turkey? If not, what would you rather serve instead?

I like any turkey just as long as it tastes good and is moist. But because I only like white meat, I could go for just a fried turkey breast.

  • 1. yes traditional turkey

    2. i love it.  i'm getting a turkey breast to make at my home just so i have leftovers
