DLR help? Canon 7D vd 60D?

I'm hoping Santa will upgrade me this christmas! I currently have a rebelxsi but I really want higher ISO. Aside from about $500, what are really the big differences between the two? Thanks knowledgeable nesties!

Re: DLR help? Canon 7D vd 60D?

  • Well, I'm totally new to the Nest (as my username says), but it just so happens that I can answer this question!

I have a 60D, and like you, I considered getting a 7D and went back and forth between the two cameras. Ultimately, I decided to save the $500 (and maybe put it toward a new lens in the future) and get the 60D. There are very few differences between the cameras. The main one is that 60D shoots at 5.6 fps (I may be just slightly off on that number) and the 7D shoots somewhere around 8 fps. I don't really take a lot of fast action shots, so to me, that difference wasn't enough for me to get the 7D. The 7D has more focus points and the body is much, much heavier though also more sturdy than the 60D. To me, none of those things were worth the extra money! When I outgrow the 60D, I'll move on to the 5D Mark II Smile

Have you been to www.dpreview.com ? You can do a side by side comparison of the two cameras there. Honestly, nearly everything else is exactly the same. Same sensor, same megapixels, etc. Good luck choosing!

  • One more thing, sorry. Have you checked out the Rebel T3i? It has the same megapixels and ISO numbers as the 60D and 7D, but it's cheaper than both of those. I think it'd be a great camera for you to consider, unless you're dead set on upgrading out of the Rebel line of cameras. Just wanted to throw that out there!

  • perfect thread for you right here:

I have a 7D and i love it to pieces (the new focus system is great!). but i also built my lens collection while using my 40D before I got the 7. Id probably recommend getting the 60 and a new lens :-p

  • Thank you for the insight! I think I'll go for the 60D. All things (mostly) equal, I like lighter :)
