We were at Pentagon City Mall today and he was OBSESSED with the big Christmas tree in the food court. It took us like 10 minutes to walk 30 feet because after he noticed it, he kept going over to the railing and staring down at it and saying "That's a Christmas tree!!! It's SO BIG!!!"
And then...I'm almost afraid to tell you this...when we went down to the food court level to get a better look at this tree...we saw Santa. It was like someone lit a fire cracker in my son's pants. He was jumping and dancing on the escalator yelling "IT'S SANTA!! IT'S SANTA! SANTA, WE'RE COMING!!! HERE WE ARE!!!"
People were all around us were cracking up and it totally reminded me of that scene in Elf when the manager tells Buddy that Santa is coming the next day and he's all "SANTA!!! I know him!" Funny stuff.
But, yeah, he has no such love for Turkey Day. Sorry :-(
Re: Sstrug--my son doesn't respect the bird either :-(
i think i want to start a campaign to put a turkey in malls for kids to get their photo taken with him...like the easter bunny and santa....tell Tom Turkey what to be thankful before before you ask Santa for presents.
That could end with a lot of kids then refusing to eat turkey once they associate it with the Tom Turkey they met at the mall. As a vegetarian, I'm all for it, but I can see where some parents might not appreciate it

to be clear, we did not go to the mall with any intention of seeing Santa :-) I am pro-bird! (well, pro-dead-cooked-bird...yum) and we didn't do the whole sit on his lap, ask for presents deal. I guess business was kind of slow today, so he was hanging out talking to the guy at the sunglasses kiosk and we just walked up and said hi.
and I'd be fine with a Tom Turkey. I don't think my son would have a moral dilemma when it comes to eating turkey. He loves chickens at farms and such, but we eat chicken all the time at home. Or maybe he just hasn't made the connection yet ;-)
