Did anyone watch All American Muslim?

What were your thoughts? Will you keep watching? What were your thoughts on the families/couples they chose to follow?

PS: Is it recommended that I put "spoilers" or something in the title?

Re: Did anyone watch All American Muslim?

  • Yep, just got finished watching it on DVR a while ago.

I'm from Dearborn, so it wasn't necessarily any new insight for me (though I loved seeing my hometown since I'm out of state now. :) It seems like they're covering a wide range of Muslims, from the more conservative to those who still practice but are much more "Americanized" so to speak, which is great.

  • I am watching it right now and am liking it so far. I love watching shows about lifestyles and cultures different than mine, so this is fascinating to me.
  • I thought they did a pretty good job. I work in a pretty multicultural workplace so it wasn't too eye opening for me either. For the mom with the son who was converting, I thought she was handling it pretty well. I've seen families break down over switching between Christian faiths and it would be hard not being able to celebrate Christian holidays with grandchildren IMO.

I totally agree.  I DVRed it so I haven't watched it yet.  I am very interested since I taught first grade two years  at a private Muslim school.

  • I enjoyed it and set it to DVR new episodes.  I have quite a few Muslim kids in my class so I'm looking forward to a little bit of insight into their religion and customs.
  • I watched and found it interesting. I also liked that they showed a large variety of families.

I thought it was good but I am not going to record it to DVR or anything.

    I agree with this.

  • I liked it a lot. As the wife of a Muslim from Detroit, I think they did a pretty good job.  Although I do wish they would have a more diverse group of Muslims outside of Arab-Muslims.  There are a lot of African American Muslims in metro Detroit as well.

Also, I hope that going forward they show what's cultural vs. what's actually apart of Islam....

On this same vein I actually find it interesting to compare the cultures of those who are Arabic Muslims and those who are Chaldean.
