Baby shower help - XP

http://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/60239862.aspx

I posted this on my BMB but you ladies know me better than anyone and maybe some of you would have some insight.  Honestly, the shower issue stresses me out and I just need some good advice.  Please?  Thanks.

Re: Baby shower help - XP

  • Why not just have 2 showers? One with each side of the family?

  • I thought of that, too.  The only thing is, when you do 2 sides, wouldn't it be MY families side (my Dad and Mom) and HIS side (FIL and MIL family)?  It's both sides of my side that want to throw it.

If I have 2 showers, it would essentially be 6 aunts and my grandma throwing a shower for a few other aunts and cousins and then my Mom's sister throwing a shower for my Mom's side and then both of Mark's sides?  I'm not opposed to 2 showers, I just don't know who would be invited on which side, YKWIM?

  • I would say something like this to your dad's sisters....

"That is so sweet of you.  I would love it if you wanted to throw me a shower.  How thoughtful.  You know, Aunt _________ had also mentioned something about a shower.  I would hate for her to feel uninvolved since I know that it is hard for her that my mom isn't here.  Do you think you might be able to reach out and see if you could get her involved somehow too?  If not, I understand, I just know it would mean a lot to her since she is the only woman from that side of my family."

(Super passive aggressive, I know, but I think it might work)

  • I really like blender's idea!

Or else it could just depend on your families. If the people on your mom's side and your dad's side don't really know each other well and don't socialize regularly, it might be more natural to let them each host a shower on their own. My family is like that; relatives on my dad's side don't really socialize with relatives on my mom's side. It's OK to have multiple showers, especially if the guests lists for each are different. But if it makes more sense for everyone to attend one party, then I'd go with what blender said.

Good luck! Personally, I prefer smaller parties, that way I get more time to socialize with the guests!

I ditto starsailor ditto'ing blender and ringy.  I think they covered all the bases.

Either have a few, small showers or go the passive aggressive route.
