Sending overseas

Hi - I tried searching for the answer but nothing has come up...I am looking to send a macbook air overseas to my husband, but he has heard stories of mishandling/theft etc by the time it may reach him. We are both researching this before I send it,

Has anyone done this successfully? Advice please, thanks.

  •  Beef Jerky, magazines, playing cards, small games, paper back books, candy canes (no chocolate!) and candy, snacks, trail mix, soaps, etc.

  • Isn't not writing what it is on the customs form illegal? I always just write electronics if it's video games/cameras/whatever.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

If they have microwaves....easy mac, those betty crocker single serving brownie things, ramen noodles, beef stew, basically anything they can eat in the microwave. Also pre-packaged snacks are heaven during deployment. I also had my mom send me sheets and stuff from home.

You can send chocolate durring the winter months.  It won't melt.

If he has a favorite shower gel or deodarant, send those.  They don't have many options.

Microwave meals if he has access

    drink mixes

    non-aerosol airfreshener

    magazines

his favorite snacks (mine loves beef jerky, wasabi peanuts and chips and salsa)

  • I sent DH a netbook during one of his deployments (which obviously is much less than a mac) but I just didn't list it on the customs forms and listed much less interesting items (toothbrushes, batteries, etc) also didn't put it on the top or bottom of the box so that if the package was opened, it couldn't be seen.

DH also said boxes that had tape across the center and along the side slits were rarely ever opened whereas the ones with just tape across the center slit arrived opened more often.  I don't really know how to explain what tea meant, but everywhere there was a slit, I covered it with tape, so it'd be a *** to open basically and most likely not worth people's time.

  • Thanks everybody, Im just about ready to send it, and will definitly go for taping it super secure, and adding all the nice things you guys suggested in there...the only response I get from him right now is he doesnt need anything or feel like anything...i hope when he does receive some of the packages his mind will start to change, thanks guys!
