The big planner that I am, I'm already thinking about our 5 year anniversary. A week after our wedding anniversary will also be our 10 year anniversary for being together. I'd like to do something special. We never got a honeymoon.
So, if you could go anywhere (think less than $5000 total) where would you want to go? In the US and outside ideas all are fine. I want to get a list of my ideas together and then sit down with H and discuss where we would like to go together.
I've thought about Niagara which is where we had planned on going for our HM. Costa Rica had always been a dream. Puerto Rico since we wouldn't have to get passports.
Heck, after finding some awesome pictures on pinterest, Havasu Falls in Grand Canyon National Park look awesome!
Time of year and length of trip are still up in the air. Just want to get started on planning this so it actually happens!
Re: Anniversary Trip Ideas (for 5 year)
You can get a fantastic all inclusive for a good deal...we went to Punta Cana Domincian Republic which they say has some of the best beaches for 3k for 7 nights.
We got a great deal and went to all inclusive in Mexico for 1600 total for 2 for 7 nights with taxes.
You could do NYC and then rent a car to Niagra.
Or do a road trip and do Lake Havasu and do the Grand Canyon and all that fun stuff a long the way.
Outer Banks in NC while renting a beach house is fun.
Florida is always great too
I recommend an all-inclusive! We did 10 days in Jamaica last year for 3k and we're doing 10 days in the DR this year for about 3400. I loooooved Jamaica soo much and highly recommend it, and I've heard really good things about the DR.
If you do Niagara Falls, I recommend the Canadian side and you'll need passports for that.
I did tons of research and even had a B&B booked. It was on the Canadian side and a little ways from the water, but still really nice.
We did an all inclusive in Mexico back in 2004 for Spring Break. That's the only trip we've taken together that wasn't to see or with family.
My Profile
I also LOVE Jamaica. We went to Sandals Dunns River for our honeymoon and it was awesome. SO relaxing! They do "sales" on their site all the time. If you work with a travel agent they can watch the site and book it for you too.
We loved Dunns River because it is a little farther away from the airport so you get less college kids and more honeymoon/anniversary trippers.
We upgraded to some package - concierge I think it's called and it was so worth it.
This was who we used for our honeymoon - the person we worked with is Nancy and she was great.
My favorite places so far have been Jamaica and NYC. It really depends what you like to do though. Do you want to relax at an all inclusive or sightsee in a bigger city?
Our trip to Jamaica was only 3 days, but we're looking into going back this summer. We also used the same travel agent as Kare for our honeymoon to Mexico and the Jamaica trip.
5K is a really good budget and you can definitely get some good deals if you start looking early.
I say Costa Rica.
We went there for our honeymoon and spent about 3000-3500 for 11 days/10 nights (w/ airfare, hotels, rental car for the entire time, and food/souvenirs/activities.etc). We stayed in four different hotels in four different areas of the country. Plenty of people recommend the all inclusive in CR, but I do not. I mean, I guess I can't say anything because we didn't go to one (the big ones are located in the north western part of the country and we didn't visit there - we weren't looking for a beach vacation which is mainly what that area offered) but I was happy with our experience. I did learn a few things and would be happy to share my thoughts or recommendations with you if you are thinking more about it. Just let me know. Keep in mind, J and I like to adventure out on our own so we didn't feel like we need and AI.
J and I are thinking of a trip for our five-year as well and CR is at the top of the list.
Oh, and May is the beginning of the "rainy" season in CR, so you will get cheaper rates for hotels even tho it's really not that rainy yet. We had spectacular views of the volcano we stayed near and only had one rainy/misty day out of the 11 days we were there.
