weekly book post

Hey girls!

I started and finished Second Time Around by Beth Kendrick and loved it!!! I stayed up late reading it one night and read it a lot last night to finish it.  I had read two of her novels in the past (over a year or so again.)   In this one, one of the characters was remodeling a house to start a bed and breakfast and DH and I were at one this weekend so it was neat reading it while we were there!

Before I started that one I tried to read Lucky Me which I think I posted about last week. I couldn't get into it though.  I am probably going to start Sweet Valley Confidential tonight.  Tonight I had a memory of the Sweet Valley TV show. I think it was on on Sat. mornings.  Did anyone else watch it? I was always more into Babysitters Club than Sweet Valley but read many of the Sweet Valley books as well and had the board game.  I had two of the BSC board games!

Re: weekly book post

  • Haha, yes you bring back memories of both BSC and Sweet Valley.  I loved BSC when I was in 4th grade.  They are the books that actually got me to like reading.  I watched the Sweet Valley show and read both Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High.

I am reading Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson.  It is a historical fiction novel for middle schoolers.  It was recommended for me by someone at B&N so I am giving it a shot.  I really do need to read books that my middles schoolers would enjoy.

  • I just finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. It was a good read and very different from the styles that I typically am drawn too. It's about an older widowed man that falls in love with a woman in his small English town. The characters are all quite quirky.

  • I had to read Chains a few weeks ago for class! This week I have to read Moon over Manifest (I'm about 50 pages in) and Chasing Vermeer (about 100 pages in). I just hope I have time to finish either one or both of them by Wednesday's class.  Normally I'm on top of reading in general and reading for class, but this semester is killing me with my job.

  • This week, I read Nicholas Sparks' new book, The Best of Me. It was not good. If you love his other books, you might like it, since they're all really the same story. He tries to write from the perspective of "bad guys," but I just don't think he has the frame of reference for it. The plot is completely ridiculous and unrealistic and you can see the ending coming from miles away.

Last night, I read all of Sarah's Key. It's a fiction Holocaust story told from both 1942 and 2002. I liked it. I stayed up late to finish it.

I cannot wait to read Sarah's Key!  It has been on my to-read list but since it is not available for my Nook through the library, I have not read it yet.  My Nook has spoiled me :)

Will you let me know what you think of this when you finish? I'm really great at recommending books to my high school students, but I need to expand my knowledge of books for the middle school group. Thanks!

  • Still reading Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's finally starting to pick up a bit so I'm more interested in reading now. For anyone who has read Jodi Picoult's Salem Falls...lifetime made a movie version and its going to be on this Saturday night. I've already set my DVR!
