QOTD Tuesday (stuffing)

For Thanksgiving, do you put your stuffing inside the bird or make it separately?

Re: QOTD Tuesday (stuffing)

  • Separately.  I'm too lazy to deal with putting it in the bird, then taking it out.  :-)

  • separately. the past few traditional thanksgivings we've had, we put apples, onions, and lemons in the bird.

  • Separately for me too. Too lazy to stuff the bird, plus our Thanksgivings are usually done potluck-style so I rarely have to do both the turkey and stuffing. Less worry about contamination too.

  • My parents do it in the bird (ok that sounded bad.. haha) but I'm too lazy so I make it seperate.
  • I cook it in the bird.  I feel like it stays more moist that way, and it frees up my oven for other stuff.

  • Separately. I've always been intrigued with putting inside the bird, but I heard there is a chance of bad bacteria getting in it.

  • Definitely separate.

  • Separate- it's how my mom makes it, and how I would too if I cooked on my own. I'm a bit of paranoid when it comes to raw meat... very cautious to make sure it doesn't touch other foods and spread bacteria.
  • it comes in a separate container from Harris Teeter :)

that's where our Thanksgiving meal, all prepped, just needs to be heated, comes from and I LOVE it

  • well, i don't make the stuffing! we have never hosted and it's never been on my list of things to bring.

that said, i prefer my stuffing to be made inside the bird (though i'll eat it anyway i can). i think it dries out too much when it's prepared separately. my mom makes a killer oyster stuffing inside the bird. OMG YUMMMMM.

DH's family makes cornbread stuffing and cooks it separately. it's pretty good too.

  • Separately.  I'm scared of bacteria.

  • Our family does both.  Usually a noodle stuffing inside the bird and a bread stuffing outside.

  • I think it's tasty either way, but I make my stuffing outside of the bird. I worry about contamination, and also you can't fit much stuffing inside the bird. I need more stuffing!

  • In the bird! I think it's much more flavorful and moist. But we usually have both, because some of my family members think it's gross cooking it in the turkey.

  • I am terrified of cross-contamination, so separately.

  • I've always seen it prepared separately.  I don't like stuffing and every year get slack about it...
  • My family is crazy for stuffing, so we put as much as possible in the bird, then put the rest in a separate dish.

  • My mom makes a massive batch the day/night before and then some gets reheated separately while some goes in the turkey. The stuffing from inside the bird goes quickly, so yummy!
  • Note: my aunt insists that "stuffing" = in the bird and "dressing" = outside the bird.

In any case, :) we stuff the bird and cook the rest in a separate dish. I never used to like it, but it has grown on me now that I switched to sourdough. :) Maybe it doesn't matter much, but we always insert a thermometer inside the stuffing (in the bird) to make sure it's hot enough to have killed off the bacteria. This might just be to make ourselves feel better though...

  • Seperately, since we fry the bird!

  • We do both so we have lots :)
  • I'd be interested to know if there is a correlation b/c those that reported that turkey is dry & those that put the stuffing inside the bird.

I do outside b/c we like lots and stuffing the bird means it takes longer to cook...which tends to dry it out.  I use chicken or turkey broth to make the stuffing so it's still got the flavorful goodness of poultry.

  • My dad stuffs the bird to the point that it looks like it's going to explode and then bakes the rest separately. I don't care because I don't eat it anyway. Stuffing is gross.

This is us too. I used to prefer inside the bird, I still think its tastier, but I just can't handle the grease anymore. My tummy is too sensitive.
