What to do around Lightning hockey arena?

Hi!

We will be visiting family in Tampa for Thanksgiving this year.  The guys have hockey tickets for Saturday night which leaves my MIL and me looking for something to do while they are at the game.  Is there a lot to do in the area around the arena?  We'd be open to dinner and a movie, museums, etc.  My MIL is not a big shopper though.

Thanks!!

  • Channelside is within walking distance to the forum. There are places to eat, a movie theater, and shops at Channelside. HTH!
  • The Forum is in the Channel District, so you'll be very close to Channelside, which has a lot of restaurants and a movie theater.  Its also close to the Florida Aquarium, which is very nice.  There are also some good restaurants in downtown Tampa and one of my favorite movie theaters anywhere, Tampa Theatre.  Here are some links.

Some restaurants to look at might be Spain, The Fly, and Bern's Steakhouse (not that close, but so worth it, especially the dessert room). I'm sure the other ladies here will have some more suggestions.

  • I agree with Channelside!  There's restaurants and a movie theater.  There's also bowling at Splitsville!  I was there Thanksgiving weekend last year, and expected it to be packed, but it wasn't too busy and they had specials.

  • If the History Museum is open (right next to the Forum), I highly recommend that.  It's $12 admission and they have a really cool costume collection on the 3rd floor (Batman, Ghostbusters, Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, etc.).

  • Thank you everyone!

I definitely already have "vacationitis" and Thanksgiving is still a week away!

I'm hoping the weather is nice while we're there.  But to me, being from Minneapolis, anything above 40* this time of year is nice.  :-)

Today it's 85, I don't think it's going to cool down too much next week. Have fun!
