Re: what are you doing for thanksgiving?
The holidays are going to be really weird this year :- I was just thinking this morning about if I should even put up the christmas tree which I would usually do the day after thanksgiving.... blahhhh !!
I am going to my moms which is 3 minutes away from me lol.
First weight loss goal - 40lbs... DONE! Second weight loss goal - 17lbs...
We're going to Ohio for Thanksgiving. I usually dread it because my FIL smokes in the house (love the family - hate the smoke smell), but this year it will be great. They remodeled the house and he can only smoke in one room with the window open or the garage. Woo hoo!
It will just be us and H's parents. I'm really not looking forward to it. I get to do everything for just 4 adults. Blah.
I tried seeing if my sister and her family could come over, but she has to work the morning of Thanksgiving, so that's a no go.
After hosting H's family for the past 4 years I told him I miss being with my family on Thanksgiving so I really want to try next year to go over and be with them. That seems more than fair, right?
I'll make all the traditionals for the meal. Still deciding on the appetizers for during the Lions game and desserts.
My Profile
I was going to host regardless but my FIL passed away this past Saturday night so that has really changed things up.
So it will be H, MIL, BIL, and Ava. I'll still cook as if we're having 10 because Thanksgiving is just one of my favorite holidays ever and as mean as this sounds I'm not going to have it ruined for Ava's sake.
All of the traditional stuff except for my stuffing with gizzards because I'm the only one that likes them and that will be too much work.
We were supposed to then go to MS that Saturday and have this big Thanksgiving for H's mamaw but not sure that will happen now with her son passing and we'll all be there in a couple days.
Everything in my life will be in limbo for the next couple of weeks please pray that it's seriously only a couple of weeks for me before I snap
I can't beleive it's already Thanksgiving time. This year is flying by.
are you hosting or going to someone else's home? - We are going to my Aunt's house.
how many people will you be with? - There will be about 14 of us total.
are you cooking/bringing something? - I think I'm going to make chocolate cheesecake squares, using homemade cookie dough. It will be 100% from scratch so I'm excited about that.
are you travelling? how far? - We will be traveling about 45 minutes by car to my family's town.
I kind of snuck up on me. Yikes.
Don't know what the plan is yet. We're going to visit J's mawmaw this Wednesday night so we will find out from the rest of the family then what's going on next week.
I actually don't plan on making my usual stuff (which is usually a lot!). I am making a batch of cranberry sauce for J to take to his work potluck (and he is making baked mac n cheese). I'm also making some chocolate spice cupcakes to give to the Y for the Thanksgiving meal deliveries they do. As for the family meal, I guess I'll make the cranberry sauce, the mashed potatoes (so I can make them dairy free and be able to eat them). Not sure about a dessert... maybe some bourbon balls. Everything I usually make is drenched in cream and milk and cheese. And I can't eat any of it this year so I am being a brat and not making it. *sigh*
i'm not either and i was the same way before being a vegetarian so it has nothing to do with that.
So sorry to hear this!
Me too! Were you all close?
Friends are hosting a Neapolitan, Cajun, Thanksgiving Brunch this Sunday. Not quite sure what to expect (they lived in NoLA for awhile and love Cajun stuff), but am sure it'll be fun.
I'm cranking out a pumpkin pie for the event... me baking... scary!
For actual T-giving, we're going up north-- Tuscany and Bologna. Seeing Paul McCartney in Bologna on the Sat after! H is a huge Beatles fan so it should be fun!
I was not close with FIL...he was just strange to me and after Ava was born I started resenting both MIL and FIL for not following simple rules (wash your hands with soap and water after smoking) and crossing boundaries all of the time.
He had two heart attacks and a stroke about 7-8 years ago and never changed his bad diet, nightly drinking, or smoking like a chimney but everyone seems so in shock. The way it happened (still waiting on report but most likely a massive heart attack) and was found outside that was the shocking part but not him passing even at 56.
MIL acts like life won't go on but she's only living for Ava bla bla bla and H is worried for her (he always worried for her ever since FIL had a big affair about 20 years ago) everyone coddles her and I really want to show her how to be independent because nobody is doing her any favors. Even before you could never say anything around her without her taking offense even if it had nothing to do with her and the crying would ensue.
It's just a mess
Lunch at my ILs with 8 ppl. One BIL and SIL won't be there as they are unable to travel with the little bambino on the way. No Bob Evans this year... MIL is cooking. I am bringing a Cheesecake Factory pumpkin cheesecake bc that is what I want and corn casserole.
Dinner at my uncle's house with the whole crew, about 30 ppl. It will be hard bc this is the first holiday since gpa passed. I am making corn casserole to share.
Hilarious that my uncle asked me to bring what I always make for DH since it is his favorite to have to share with his side of the family.
I am sure Aud will be end up falling asleep from one house to the other and we will have to sit in the car or drive around for an hour so she can rest.
Next year, I am only doing one on the day. ... I think I said that last year too. We can't not go to ILs bc it is BIL's bday and we can't not go to my side's bc it is the first holiday since gpa passed.
I can't believe you are bringing a store bought cake... WTH!?!?
