Recommend your weed control/fertilizer service
We had a contract with ABC for fertilizing, weed control, etc. and we're just not too impressed. I think our weeds are worse, and we've had both brown patch and take-all-root-rot this year.
Can anyone give some recommendations - NOT for mowing, just for fertilizing, weed control, etc. We live in Friendswood.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Recommend your weed control/fertilizer service
We used TruGreen for a year but I canceled after my year was over. Same as you, I wasn't impressed at all.
Half the time when TruGreen came out it burned my lawn and my grass didn't look as good as when I fertilized it myself. My parents also used them for a year and never saw a difference in their lawn.
I got better results going to Wal-mart and buying a bag of Scott's lawn fertilizer and weed control (the expensive bag, like $45-50) and spreading it out in the yard myself than using a commercial service.
So I would recommend going to Wal-mart or Lowes and buying a big bag of Scott's and do it yourself.
I'm a pretty big follower/ advocate of Randy Lemmon's schedule: http://www.randylemmon.com/lawns/fertilize.html
He has stated that there is no company that he recommends for this so it's all DIY but pretty easy. My grass is even still mostly green :-)
We will be trying the organic version of the schedule next year.
You could always buy the items yourself and have your lawn guys apply at the needed times.
