Another Carseat Question..SCB?
My sister is looking at convertible carseats for my nephew. He's getting too big for her to handle in the carrier. Do you have any recommendations for good convertible car seats for small vehicles? They have a small 4-door car that they will need a seat for. Any ideas?
Re: Another Carseat Question..SCB?
Is there a BRU close by her? They will let you take seats out and try them in your car. She might be surprised by what fits. A lot of convertibles have smaller foot prints than infant seats, so she might not have an issue at all.
I love my Britax seats a lot. I feel like they are super easy to install and really comfy looking. They are spendy though. I found all of mine on clearance for under $150/each, otherwise I would have gone with something else. The Graco My Ride, Evenflo Triumph, Evenflo Symphony 65e and Learning Curve True Fit. I had a hard time installing the My Ride rear-facing, but it is a really good seat.
I would check this list and go from there. I think you can try most of these at BRU. If there isn't one near her, then post and let me know what car she has, and I can try and help out.

I would just tell her to stay away from the Alpha Omega Elite, Eddie Bauer 3-n-1, Graco Comfortsport and Evenflo Tribute.
Thanks! She is going to hit up Babies R Us tonight. She was just looking for a starting point. This will be a great help to her!
I have the MyRide65 and love it, but it is pretty big especially rear-facing. She has a Mercury Milan she's working with, so I really don't think the MyRide fit, since she only has latch on the sides and not a "full" seat in the middle. It's a tight squeeze in my Ford Escape!
I am drawing a blank on how big a Mercury Milan is. I would say it also depends on how tall she is, etc. We can fit 2 rear-facing Britax seats in my car, but neither of us are tall.
I would tell her to really check out the Symphony seat. It is one of the only seats that rear-faces, forward faces and turns into a decent booster.
Do you know if they got the 40lb or 50lb limit seat? The 40lb one is often outgrown very early because it has a short harness. I know several kids that have outgrown it by 2.5, and are far too small for a booster at that age. A lot of people don't take the time to read the manual either, and use the top harness slot when it is not reinforced for use with the harness. Also, people buy it thinking that it will be the last seat they need, because it turns into a booster. However, it consistently makes the Top 10 Worst Booster list every year because the fit is terrible. I am actually surprised that it continues to be made.
The 50lb one has a better harness, and I believe the top slots are usable on that one, but it still stinks as a booster.
Nope, because they both do.
That is why people get sucked into buying it. They take one look and think, "Wow, I won't need to buy another seat". That isn't the reality of it though.
So to sum it up, the Alpha Omega is a decent convertible; however, bigger babies (like ours) will outgrown it fairly quickly. Plus, as a booster is sucks! Is that fair?
I would say so. They just need to make sure they read the manual all the way through, so they are aware of when the seat is outgrown.
