WWAND

I have been planning a surprise trip for DH with his friend to go see the Packers play KC in KC on Dec. 18th.  So far we haven't purchased tickets because DH's friend's church has a set in an auction this weekend.  So far, DH knows nothing about any of this.

Two weeks ago DH tore his ACL and now has surgery scheduled for Dec. 1st.  He will be on crutches for 1-2 weeks and expected to stay off the knee.  Should I still go forward with the surprise plans?  Should I tell DH what the plans are and let him decide?  I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I don't want to be out the money for the tickets and hotel room for DH or his friend if he ends up not going either.

Re: WWAND

  • Having just gotten back from a Chiefs game, I can't imagine having to walk from the car to the stadium and back on crutches. Not to mention the seats are so close together side to side and front to back, I have no idea where he'd put his crutches. I do know Ticketmaster sells "handicapped" seats, where you can sit at the top of the sections where they put a few folding chairs instead of the attached seats. But if you already have tickets lined up through your church, I don't know if you can change them to those kind of seats.

  • I had ACL surgery in Feb and I was off of crutches by about day 5 (around the house).... I had a nerve block too. They did however say that as soon as the nerve block wore off I could start putting some pressure on the knee ( Day 3). I had the surgery on a Thursday and went to a UNO hockey game the following Friday and walked from the parking lot to our seats wich were VERY far up. I didn't use crutches. I was pretty drained by the end of the night but was greatful to be able to get out of the house. One more day stuck in my house and someone was going to get it.  I did have to come home and take some pain meds and put my leg up to get it elevated to avoid swelling and I did ice it often. They gave me this really cool cooler. I can't really tell you what to do because everyone handles surgery differently and everyone was pretty surprised I was off of the crutches as fast as I was...

If surgery is the 1st I would think he would feel up to it but it is a lot of travel...

Good Luck! So nice if you to do that for him! Good Luck with his surgery too!

  • I've been in the KC stadium, and the stairs are NOT FUN!  I would tell DH about the surprise and let him decide. Whatever he decides, I am sure he will appreciate it. It is still the thought that counts.

    Good luck!

  • Eeek, this is a bummer. Frankly I think I would NOT tell him & NOT go. If you tell him, of course he's going to say he wants to go, and then he will either:

    1. Feel good, and go & have a good time (optimal)

    2. Feel crappy, and go & not have the best time

    3. Feel crappy, and not even want to go, and now you are both sad due to wasted $$

I would try to reschedule. I personally wouldn't tell him b/c I wouldn't want him to have to be sad if option 2 or 3 is what came to pass.

Bummer. :( I hope he is on the mend asap.
