You can tell me to MYOB but as the resident infertile I'm just looking out for you, so I have a few ?s re: what your going through (known in infertile circles as "beta hell"):

1. Refresh my memory, are you seeing an RE?

2. i know you were put on prometrium, but did they send you for repeat b/w @ 48 hrs post starting it to make sure it was doing the job?  I ask because some women don't respond well to the suppositories & need to be on PIO.

3. How many days since your LMP/O were you @ the 1st beta draw?  Your initial beta seemed high if it was ~14 DPO or so.  Could mean multiples which may also explain your wonky betas if you're dealing with a vanishing twin.

GL with everything!

I am not yet.  DH and I have been seriously discussing it when I got my first BFP.  After the miscarriage, we kind of took a break and never touched back on the topic.

    2. i know you were put on prometrium, but did they send you for repeat b/w @ 48 hrs post starting it to make sure it was doing the job?  I ask because some women don't respond well to the suppositories & need to be on PIO.

I went on the prometrium starting Thursday night.  When I went in for my blood draw on Monday I asked if they were checking my progesterone levels and they said no.  I asked if they would please do so, because I wanted to be sure that the pills were working.  They told me they couldn't tell if they were working until at least a week after I started taking them and they wouldn't retest until then.

Unfortunately, I have no idea.  I had my miscarriage on Sept 17th. The doctor's office told me to wait a full cycle before trying again.  I didn't bother with anything preventative because after 1.5 years trying I didn't think I needed to worry about unexpected PG.  Got a regular full-blown period on Oct. 23-25th.  Then on CDs 5-9 I took my Clomid.  CD 10-15 I got postive OPKs, which is weird for me.  I took a HPT and it came up positive.  So...I have no idea when I actually O'd.  I got the positive on November 6th.

    GL with everything!

Thanks for any input or thoughts that you have. :)

  • Yeah, the lab has no idea what they're talking about since REs adjust progesterone dosing all the time.  Rule of thumb is above a 10 is good.  It's things like this you should make an RE appt for as unfortunately most OB/GYNs have no clue about folks dealing with infertility.  I'll be stalking you; hope it turns out ok!

  • Yeah it was a fight to get them to even test my Progesterone in the first place, so I wasn't really surprised they wouldn't recheck it on Monday.  The lab tech was all set to do it and the doctor refused it.  Thanks for the good vibes.
  • I'm just getting caught up and saw your post below. When I had my mc they told me beta levels under 2000 wouldn't show anything on the u/s. sure enough, mine was at 1500 and we only saw an empty sac.

I sincerely hope that isn't the case for you on Wed, but I don't want you to lose hope if you see an empty ultrasound when you may just need more time. Are they doing another beta?

Good luck my dear, and remember we are here for you regardless!

  • As far as right now, they haven't scheduled anything else.  The doctor said we will see what the ultrasound shows and go from there.  I am mentally preparing myself for the worst...but I figure it will be more of the waiting game. Thank you for the vibes. :)
  • In your case, unfortunately, I think it'll be even more of a waiting game, kwim?  You don't know when you O'd or anything so it's hard to say if it's 'late' enough yet to be seeing certain things.

We're pulling for you, GL tomorrow and let us know how it goes!

Unfortunately I think you are right, I think I will have even more of a waiting game just like you said.  Thanks for the good vibes!
