Honestly- Your Housekeeping Skills

Ok, I made it anonymous so we can get some honest answers.  Where would you rank your housekeeping?

Re: Honestly- Your Housekeeping Skills

  • How recently was the cleaning lady there?  My answer will vary wildly....LOL
  • I will admit, I have a bit of OCD. So, my house gets cleaned extremely well on the weekends, and then I will pick up here and there during the week. It just relaxes me to have a clean house.

BTW, your last answer.....about just burning the house down and starting over, made me LOL.

  • If I lived alone, my OCD would win and I'd live in the 8/9 area all the time.

Because Mike is a 0 and Zac is a toddler I settle for 6-8 depending on when you catch me.

Cleaning is my biggest stress relief.
    Cleaning makes me feel good.
And while I hate unexpected guests, I love being prepared for them.

  • My housekeeping skills seriously lack.  I'm like a 2 or a 3, honestly.  It's kind of ridiculous.  My MIL is appalled, I'm sure...she is OCD.  :)  My mom, however, is where I get it from.
  • When I lived in my parent's house, and when I lived in a dorm my room was completely spotless. I could tell if someone moved anything.  However, since living with DH I have dropped down to probably a four.  The biggest problem in our house is that we have so much clutter.  Our house isn't dirty, just jam-packed.  We've recently started purging room by room and that has been nice. :)

Katiedom- I had that answer in mind thinking of some of the houses I've seen on hoarders. ;)

  • Before kids, I was in the 9 or 10 area. Laundry was always kept up and put away, you could eat off any surface in my house, there was no dust, and I could always tell if someone moved something. Now, after kids it's about a 5 on a good day. Kellen makes it fairly difficult to keep anything clean for longer than 5 minutes while he is awake. The only time our house ever stays clean is if he doesn't go into that room or he is sleeping. *Sigh* One day I will have a nice, spotless house again.

Its probably my childless existence (unless you count DH), but this made me smile.  I imagine you'll miss it someday.

Before I married the big child, my home was kept fairly neat with big cleanings (mopping, scrubbing floor, etc.) done about once a month. I was also pretty clutter free as I prefer to lead a simple existence.  DH is complete opposite, and I have come to terms with having a messier home.  I can't imagine what it will be like when we have kids...I"ll probably end up inspected by DCFS or something.

I take comfort in the fact that all these germs probably build up the immunity of me, DH, Elliot and any future kids.

Oh so true. DH has always been the neater one and I the messier one. Things aren't dirty around here just a lot of stuff and that doesn't bother me. I know he walks through the door after work and feels frustrated but I'm thinking "Dude, if you could have been here right before he woke up from his nap you would have been so impressed." I was never high on the scale, but I have definitely reached an all time low since Collin's birth.

Exactly! I used to be an 8-9...now, I'm a 5 on good days.

  • I was a 9-10 even after marrying/ moving in with DH, who is a crumb-monster and hoarder.  I got him to shape up his ways completely in regards to the main level and upstairs, but the man cave of our house is a 1-2.  I never, ever go down to the basement.  Luckily for me, we are finishing our basement in Feb-March-ish and he will be forced to confront the reality of throwing away all his useless shiit.

Now with Natalie, I can probably get my house cleaned up and company ready within 10-30 minutes depending on what I did earlier in the day, but I would hate an unexpected visitor.  I try really, really hard to keep my house clean because I cannot find peace when things are in disarray.

  • The answer that I choose is 1 but that is not because if house cleaning but because I inhertied a house that wasn't completly empty to begin with.  IL's stuff still existis in everyroom except our bedroom& bathroom. Plus underneath all her stuff is our stuff from before we moved and I just feel out of control with the clutter. I've gone through most of our stuff but I can't officially put all our stuff up until hers is gone and now that she is planning on moving back in, she is no longer going through the stuff she left so it just sits.

So at this point it would be easier to burn it and start over.

I really can't wait to move and to completely start fresh with an empty and clean house.

  • It's not worthy of being on "Horders" but not so clean you could eat off the floor either.  My mom cleaned offices for years when we were kids so NOTHING would ever be up to her standards, lol!

  • We're usually in the 5-7 range, though sometimes it looks worse than it actually is. If the coffee table has a couple dirty dishes and things that need to be thrown away on it, and our floor has dirty laundry on it and the bed's unmade, the whole place looks like a disaster, but with a 5 min pick-up we're guest-ready.
