Silly PG Question...

When are you supposed to not sleep on your back? I've been sleeping on m back a lot lately but I figured this wasn't an issue until you are farther along....silly question I know. lol I'm 14 weeks now.

Re: Silly PG Question...

  • Different docs will tell you different things. My Dr. said that basically if you are hurting the baby by sleeping on your back, your body will wake you up. If you wake up in the middle of the night, just change your sleeping position.
  • Ditto PP. My pregnancy book, the week by week one says starting at 16 weeks. I'm a side sleeperanyways so it hasn't been an issue, however having a problem with my right hipin which its kinda like sciatica but involves the nerve that runs the outsideof the hip....so, I've been waking up some on my back but doctor didn't seem concerned.

  • I don't worry much about it.  Left side is best for blood flow etc so I try to lay on my left side as much as possible but, I roll so left, right, back....if it helps me sleep now that I go nearly days without any, I do it :)
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I stopped sleeping on my back when it was uncomfortable.  Which was about 20 weeks for me since I was massive.

  • I try to sleep on my left side, but am most comfortable on my right.  I was never a back sleeper until I was PG with E.  Now, I wake up all the time on my back.  It makes me have to pee though, so I don't think I'm ever on my back that long anyway.  I figure if it was really a big deal we'd hear a lot more about it, so I don't worry.
  • Thanks girls! :) I wasn't a back sleeper until just recently, and I didn't think to ask about it at my appointment.
