We are having Faith's Baptism and then an after party at our house. Since we will be at the Church before the party and arriving back at our house with everyone else, I'm looking for some things that can be prepped in advance and I can just put out when we get home.
We are having about 17 people. I wanted to get a lunchmeat platter for the adults (I'm having CFA nuggets and crock pot mac and cheese for the kids) but Giant only has platters for 10-14 people or 20-28). Should I just get the small and have other food as well?
I am also making a taco salad and shrimp macaroni salad.
We made sloppy joe's in the crock pot for another party but it was hardly touched.
Any suggestions?
Re: Party Menu help (because it's so slow!)
Veggies & dip or fruit and dip and cookies
. Just kidding about the cookies. How many of the 17 will be adults? Are the kids big eaters? I think size would depend on your answers to these questions.
Also, I'd suggest another vegetable or even plain salad. Although, I think that the veggies would probably cover that.
Oh, I'm also getting a fruit salad from CFA.
The 17 are all adults.
You could get the smaller tray and make (or order) tuna or chicken salad as an additional sandwich item.
You could do mini crab cakes. I have a great recipe (thanks to Mandy!) and you could make them ahead of time and they just bake for 8 minutes once you get home. They are always a huge hit.
I would definitely do chicken salad or shrimp salad. You can prep it even the night before and then just pull it out (esp for shrimp salad, letting it sit overnight makes it so much better) and have little mini croissants with it or something. Fast and elegant!
I was also going to suggest some type of breakfast casserole if this is more brunch-food but I dont think that would go with the rest of the menu.
Do you have a Costco membership? They have great sandwich platters and are cheaper than the grocery store.
We used to but don't anymore. Oooh this could be my excuse to get another one..haha. Thanks!
I have to say, if I say chick fila nuggets and mac n cheese at a party, I would be all over it and would eat it without thinking (that must be for the kids). So definitely get enough to feed children and adults (they are having buy a large get a small free). Is this on a Sunday (cause they are closed) and if you have to warm them up then there might be other options to consider then.
We did CFA nuggets, fruit salad and one of their sandwich/wraps platters for one of DD's b-day parties. Their chicken salad & wraps are really good- but as vjcjenn mentioned they are closed on Sundays so that could be an issue.
Personally if I was getting prepared food, I would want it to all be from the same place for simplicity's sake. Also I would probably want to just get it the day of, so I wouldn't have to re-heat it or anything.
For DD's baptism we got bar-b-que from a place that was basically between the church and our house and my parents' picked it up on the way back from the church.
