Things I Learned From My MIL in the Last 24 hours....

She watched Jane while we were gone and since returning last night, this most of the knowledge she has bequeathed upon me.....

1. Jane's yeast infection is clearing due to the fact that MIL had her eat yogurt every morning.  The fact that Jane eats yogurt every morning, and that MIL was applying anti-fungal ointment to her bum have nothing to do with it.

2. Jane likes to drink milk and watch TV in the morning.  This is the 'new routine' my MIL has established, and I'm to be thankful, I guess.   Meanwhile, the info we left MIL says "wake, up, give milk, watch Mickey or Elmo...".

3. I can't store my hair spray in the bathroom b/c it's 'leaving a ring' on my sink.  The preferred alternate location is in the corner on the floor.

4. Some of my underwear needs "mending".  I guess she was helping DH with the post-New Orleans laundry last night and folded some of mine. (PS they need to be thrown out, not mended!)

5. Even though DH does his own laundry, I SHOULD make sure he hangs up his shirts as soon as they come out of the dryer so they don't wrinkle - - especially since I "don't iron".

*Sigh*.  I just once want to tell her that rather than being mad and bitter that her husband helped with nothing as far as raising the kids or housework that she should be thrilled and PROUD to have raised a son who does!!

This one made me snort out loud in my office.  Who the hell mends underwear anymore?  Its like 6 bucks for five pair, boom done.

Oh, I do.  and I killed her w/ kindness thanking her a million times for staying with J, to which she thanked me a million times for letting her.  Awwww.....

I can easily let lots roll off (mending underwear?!) but the "I cured your daughter's yeast infection" business kills.

  • Good thing she was there to help and discover all these things you would never have been aware of.

My MIL loves to do and say all those types of things too. It's great fun

  • Gotta love MILs & all their fabulousness..........

    Also- how was your trip!?

  • She's a real peach, that MIL of yours.  I hear ya, though.  Why do MILs insist they figured out everything that's wrong, taught the kiddos everything they know, and are clearly superior in the field of child rearing?

Where does the MIL mentality come from?  I wonder if it develops over time or is ingrained from birth.

I am super close with my MIL and nothing pisses me off more than to hear that she helped with our laundry.  I don't know why, but that's incredibly personal to me.  At this point she (and dh) knows this so it's not an issue.

  • *snort* She examined your underwear *snort*
