Military Spouse Preference Program?

Hi everyone!

Has anyone had any experience with the Military Spouse Preference Program? I'm searching for jobs online and came across a few postings for Kings Bay. This was mentioned in the application process.

If you've had experience, do you know how I go about doing all of this stuff?

Thanks :-)

Re: Military Spouse Preference Program?

  • I don't have any experience, but I just wanted to say I just moved from Kings Bay. I sort of miss it already.

  • I'm enrolled in the program here in San Diego.  So far, more than a year later, its not yielded me a job.  I had to go to Fleet & Family and fill out some paperwork there.  The way I understood the program was that if there is a job opening that you and a non-spouse are equaly qualified for that you'd get the leg up.  Its not a sure-fire thing for a job and there are other caveats to it (can only be in a certain amount of time at each station, if you get a DoD job of any kind you are pulled from the program until you move again, etc).

All-in-all I'd say go for it.  Can't hurt and the job market blows so any advantage you can get you should take.

  • Hi Hike!
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Yeah...its great in theory, but if you have 100+ OTHER military spouses in the program all applying for the same job, it is a useless (read politically motivated for good press and your votes) program.

  • Hi Stan! :-)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I figure it can't hurt. I was just at the eye bleeding point of applying online last night so I wanted to figure out what else could help me!

I've been a teacher for 7 years so applying for a teaching position is pretty straight forward. This is my first time applying outside of a school and it's mind blowing to me!
