Re: walkers (BR)

  • we used it for a very short time.  my place is mostly carpeted so it could only be used in the kitchen and was barely worth it.  sue went from cruising to walking so quickly that it was hardly neccessary.  fortunately ours was a hand me down.  which i further handed down.  i cant find it on BRU or BBB.  there was nothing special about it.  this time around we'll see how it goes and buy one when we feel we need it- if at all.

  • Our walker was the first thing DH bought when we found out we were having a boy. We have the car one by Combi in red. J loved it, CHrishvny has it now until I need it for C. J went backwards only at first. If we din't want him movie we oils put it on carpet. I think it was 100 before coupon at BRU

  • Mine is a hand me down.  I don't even know the brand.  But H DESTROYS the house with it, haha.  Tonight, he attacked the bathroom.  Forward, backwards, chasing the dog... :)  He has a good time though so I don't mind.

  • Ive read negative things about them, so never got one. It delays their muscle development and messes up their walking movements. We just used the jumperoo and let him cruise along the furniture and walls.

  • From the few articles I've seen, they say it separates their legs (mine no more than my jumperoo does) and causes confusion with walking.  It only causes confusion when you put a child trying to walk in a walker.  My plan is to leave it alone when he masters crawling.

  • yes walkers can cause problems with hips/leg separations but if you keep a child in a jumperoo or exersaucer too long it can have similar effects. I dont' have a link to an article right now bc its been a while since I read it , and am too lazy to google.

Both of my kids used a walker, it was actually my husbands from when he was younger!!!

and, FWIW, both my kids walked before 1 year even with using a walker. ;0)

  • I read up on it also, J also crawled and walked early.

  • We have the Chicco DJ Sea Walker (or something) and C loves it. She's been zooming around in it since about 5 months.

I'm pretty sure the information that walkers inhibit the ability to sit, walk, or crawl was defunct. The real debate over walkers (and the reason they're banned in Canada) is because a study in the 90's showed that walkers were responsible for more injuries to babies than any other baby product.

The walker hasn't inhibited C's muscle development or motor skills at all. She has done everything early - sat without assistance at 5m, crawled at 7m, pulled to standing at 7.5m, and now at 8m, she is cruising around furniture. Shs plenty of floor time for exercise and play. As far as the safety issue, she only uses it in our small kitchen/hallway area, which has no stairs, and is always supervised. I'm comfortable with it.

  • This is the one I had for A...

We had JUST moved into our house, and had no furniture in the dining room and barely anything in out living room, and we have all hardwood floors in tose 2 rooms, so she had a blast in this thing. However, we now have both those rooms fully furnished, and there isn't really much room for one of these for #2, so I'm not sure we will even be using it.

I don't feel it inhibited her walking either...she was walking at 12 months which seems pretty average.
