    • How many days do you have off work? - 2 - Thursday and Friday, but I'm takng the week
    • Do you go shopping on Black Friday?  No
    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving?  I'm annoyed that the only way to have a "family" Thanksgiving is to go to Hatteras.  Its a long ass drive for just 3 days.
    • What are you thankful for?  DD, DH and the rest of my family and friends.  A good and flexible job

    • Are you hosting Thanksgiving? Nope, did it last year and won't be doing it again for a while.
    • What are you cooking for the feast? As of now, nothing. I might try an apple strudel or another homemade apple pie since it was a hit last year.
    • Favorite Thanksgiving food? Stuffing, then turkey.
    • How many days do you have off work? n/a but DH is off Tuesday - Sunday and I can't wait.
    • Do you go shopping on Black Friday? Usually, but not at 4am with all the crazy people! I might see what stores are opening at midnight and go there but I seriously doubt it.
    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving? This is the first Thanksgiving without my parents and we usually went to PA for the holiday. We're going to my step-FIL's brother's place for the actual Turkey Day. I am not excited. Apparently he and his friends that they invite smoke a ton, so we aren't even sure if we'll stay long if they don't plan on smoking outside, which they usually don't. So, we might end up alone on Thanksgiving and it makes me so incredibly sad. We're having another turkey dinner on Friday night at the ILs when SIL, BIL and nephew can come so that'll be nice but the thought of my first Thanksgiving without my parents is sad enough without having to add to it the stress of not knowing if we'll actually even have a place to eat dinner.
    • What are you thankful for? My husband and daughter. This holiday season would be downright miserable without them.

I hate the food, I hate getting together with some of my relatives, I hate that we have to go to Thanksgiving dinners on two separate days so we can fit in my family and DH's family. I wish we could just go away for Thanksgiving. Wah! The only thing I really like about it is it means Christmas is right around the corner.
    • What are you thankful for? I'm thankful for my wonderful husband, my parents, my doggie, my health and my job.

    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving? We invited our friends who have 4 kids + her dad ( 7 people total), to be nice, but our house isn't really kid friendly and the mom/dad generally lets their kids run amok. I am secretly hoping that they don't show.

    • Are you hosting Thanksgiving? No.
    • What are you cooking for the feast? Sweet potatoes.

    • How many days do you have off work? We just get Thanksgiving day as a holiday, but I always take Friday as a vacation day.
    • Do you go shopping on Black Friday? No.
    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving? I am happy that ILs, BIL and SIL are coming to TG at my parents' house this year. We did this once before and it's fun to have a bigger group. I'm annoyed that it took BIL and SIL forever to RSVP because there was no reason for that. The "invitation" was a formality anyway - of course they would come.
    • What are you thankful for? DH and DS. I'm so excited for DS's first holiday season. I'm also thankful that our families get along well enough for a join holiday so that DH and I don't have to try to go to 2 TG dinners.

  • This poll kinda stresses me out!

We are going to the beach for the week- rented a huge house, community has an indoor pool, etc. My parents and my ILs are both coming down.

I love all REAL Thanksgiving foods!

Since we invited everyone I guess technically we are the hosts. Also I am going to be doing the bulk of the shopping since we are going to be down for the whole week. My mom gets our turkey from a friend of hers who has a farm, she picks him up on Tuesday and is driving down that day w/ the bird on ice.

My ILs are flying into a nearby airport, which I hope makes it impossible that MIL will bring down food. She always wants me to make this sausage stuffing which she claims is a big family tradition, but I prefer a "lighter" less salty stuffing- also the thought of putting nasty processed Bob Evans sausage in my heritage/free range/organic turkey makes me stabby!

    • Are you hosting Thanksgiving? No
    • What are you cooking for the feast? Nadda
    • Favorite Thanksgiving food? I don't really like the traditional stuff. I guess green bean casserole.
    • How many days do you have off work? Just Thanksgiving but I don't work Fridays, I think we're open though.
    • Do you go shopping on Black Friday? Heck yes!
    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving?  It's annoying how angry people get over "respect the turkey". I think you can like Christmas/be excited for it and still "respect the turkey", no one is missing it unless they want to. The last time I checked there weren't many Thanksgiving songs, themes, movies, decorations, etc to make use of... That phrase is just annoying too.
    • What are you thankful for? Family, animal, friends, a job I LOVE, general happiness, lots of things really but I won't bore everyone.

  • Are you hosting Thanksgiving? Yes
What are you cooking for the feast? Brined Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Corn, Green Bean Casserole, Biscuits, Pumpkin Pie and Banana Pudding.  My MIL is bringing the stuffing.
Favorite Thanksgiving food? Probably the turkey although it's all good
How many days do you have off work? I'm still on maternity leave
Do you go shopping on Black Friday? Heck yes!  I love a good deal and can't wait to go through the circulars and plan my shopping that night.
Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving?  I hate my MIL's stuffing.  I think it tastes terrible.  DH loves it and insists she make it every year and my MIL happily obliges.  I love stuffing but I can't eat hers but I would feel extremely rude making my own, although I am tempted.
What are you thankful for? My DH and two healthy kids.  A job, good health and a roof over my head.

    • What are you cooking for the feast? Nothing at all
    • Favorite Thanksgiving food? Sweet potatoes of any form
    • How many days do you have off work? 4 day weekend woohoo!
    • Do you go shopping on Black Friday? I have in the past and I am contemplating going out this year Thursday night at midnight if there is a really good deal, but I won't go on Friday this year because DH has to work and I don't want to subject DD to that madness
    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving? I feel bad that we never spend Thanksgiving with my parents. DH plays in a football game every year and he's gone from 8 or 9 am until 2 or 3 pm. If we wait until he got home to drive to my parents house, we wouldn't have much time there to spend with them. He loves this football game and looks forward to it all year long, and my parents aren't big on Thanksgiving gtgs anyhow, so I let it go.

  • Are you hosting Thanksgiving? No, my Mom always does. She has more space and it's easier for my grandparents. I live too far away for them to drive.

What are you cooking for the feast? spinach & artichoke dip, mashed potatoes, peas, cheesy corn casserole, caramel apple cheesecake pie

Favorite Thanksgiving food? turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green bean casserole, stuffing, rolls - everything except the sweet potato casserole and cranberry sauce, really

How many days do you have off work? N/A

Do you go shopping on Black Friday? I do not.

Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving? My Mom's been working her assoff lately, so I took over the menu and divvying up the dishes in an effort to keep the bulk of it off of her shoulders. One sister has elected to stay home and only join us for dessert (which, don't even get me started - I'm pissedoff), so it's down to my other sister and I since my grandparents, the one uncle who's coming and my Dad don't cook. I'm a little overwhelmed by how much I'm making and how to space it out next week so that I'm not in the kitchen all day on any one day, and the length of my grocery list is a little ridic.

What are you thankful for? My family.

    • Are you hosting Thanksgiving?
    Yes! For the first time.

    • What are you cooking for the feast?
Herb-rubbed turkey with chardonnay gravy, traditional stuffing, corn casserole, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, warm sweet potato salad, green beans with mushroom sauce, pumpkin cream pie.

    • Favorite Thanksgiving food?
All of it? Actually, my favorite thing is a lime jello salad my mom makes. But I don't make it for myself. So other than that, probably...stuffing. Because this is the only time of year I have it.

    • How many days do you have off work?
3, not including the weekend. So 5 total.

    • Do you go shopping on Black Friday?
    No.
    • Any random thoughts/vents/comments about T'giving?
I love to cook, and I'm pretty good at it. I like to experiment with flavor combinations and use "whole" foods, not canned or packaged goods. My in-laws are coming and they grew up cooking/eating processed/packaged foods. In Thanksgivings past, I've seen boxed mac and cheese, frozen broccoli, and stovetop stuffing on the table. I'm really concerned that they are going to take obligatory bites of my food and then tell me how they don't like sweet potatoes/fresh cranberry sauce/blah blah blah (because they probably would tell me rather than just eat it with a smile like I did at their house). I claimed Thanksgiving as my holiday early in the year without thinking about this difference in eating and cooking, and only realized it in the past week or two (after I made a savory pumpkin dip for a friend's party that my MIL attended and she flat-out told me she didn't like it).

    • What are you thankful for?
I found out the other day that I am receiving an inheritance from my grandfather that passed away in August. It's not a huge amount, but enough to pay off my credit cards (therefore ending our financial concerns), making home improvements, and put some in savings for an emergency fund. It's a huge, unexpected blessing. I'm still in shock.
