Is anyone stationed in Italy?

Hi there, I pop in from time to time and I wanted to ask a few questions to anyone that might be stationed in Italy? Specifically Army?

My husband is currently out but thinking of re-enlisting for Italy. What are some pro's and con's to living there? What about living there with children?

As a side note: We were stationed in Germany so we are use to Europe and things that are involved with that in general.

Oh yeah and how long did it take for the military to bring you over after your hubby was there? We didn't go through that the first time around because I stayed in a hotel until we had housing.

TIA

  • A lot of answers to your questions will vary greatly because it all depends on certain factors. My SIL and friend both moved with their husbands. Is his job/rate available in Italy? The military is pretty full right now. Are you sure your husband can even join back up? And you can't really just join back up for a specific base. They'll put you where they need you before they'll put you where you want to be.

  • He chose Germany the first time around. Yes, his MOS is available (he's also thinking of changing). Yes, they hound him day and night to get back in.

  • Italy is a lot harder to get than Germany. It's a very small post, well if you're asking about Vicenza. I don't have a ton of info about it, but I have a few friends there and one that just PCSed back to the states. What exactly do you want to know?

ETA- Nevermind, I read the questions you have. Only one friend there has children and we've discussed being overseas and traveling with a child and she said it hasn't been a problem in any way. They travel all over Europe with their 2 year old, and now have a new born(obviously they haven't taken him anywhere yet). Everyone that I know there loves it. They don't have "on post" housing though, I think the military has communities in town rented that military live in; something like that. If you don't mind saying, what is your husbands MOS?
