Can we talk kid gifts? Christmas related

What are you getting the kids in your life for Christmas?

Re: Can we talk kid gifts? Christmas related

  •  So far the only thing we've got on the list for T is "Let's Rock Elmo."  (the entire set)

I think we're going to get a wagon too.

And that's it.  I figure he'll get lots of gifts from everyone else, and he won't remember this Christmas anyway.  I can't help but feel like we're giving him the shaft, though.  lol.  Stick out tongue

But his birthday is 3 weeks later, and he'll get even more gifts then.  He doesn't need a bajillion toys.  Right?

  • We've been picking up a bunch of gifts for Bri here & there. Most of them have been on clearance so it's going to look like she's getting a ton but we really won't be spending much. Her big gift is going to be a tablet. We're debating between the Vtech and the Leapfrog one. I'm leaning towards the Vtech but I like that the Leapfrog has a camera. I need to decide soon because the Vtech is on sale this week at Target. LOL!

  • And for my nieces and nephews, I am just getting them clothes.  That's probably so lame to them.  Embarrassed  But I love when T gets clothes for gifts.  Ha!

For the younger ones, I usually throw in a small toy so I'm not completely lame.

  • I have a kid to shop for this Christmas!  I signed up to buy Christmas gifts for one of the kids at D.A. Blodgett/St. John's Home.  I found out yesterday that I was assigned a 5-year-old boy.  They also sent me his wish list.

I just got it yesterday, so I haven't bought anything yet, and I don't know exactly what all I'm going to get for him.  However, his list includes action figures, race cars, games, and clothes.  But I'm excited to go shopping!  Big Smile

Also, if you have any ideas for gifts or places to shop for a 5-year-old boy, I'm all ears.

Costco had the Elmo toy you bought and Henry loved it. Mesmerized.

We are in the same situation as you with the birthday. Plus, I don't think Henry has a clue yet about presents. So he may only get Duplos, puzzles and books. He will have a stocking that we will stuff with Little People and treats.  We were thinking of a wagon for his birthday.

    That is awesome, Kasa!

No suggestions on anything specific to get, but I have found that the toy section at Meijer Thrifty outlet on Alpine has a really good selection. We bought a remote control helicopter for my nephew that was only $12. Amazon had it for $50 and Walmart had it for $40ish.  He freaked when we gave it to him.

  • Oh, good call, Hoektastic.  I wouldn't have thought of that.  Thanks!

T is mesmerized too.  He didn't want to leave Target the other day.  Haha.

Duplos is what I told my mom and sister to get him.  :)

  • I kind of envy your girls having younger kids. I wish it was that easy to find something of SS, but he is a teenager now and it isn't as easy now. My parents bought him a new work jacket and overall set that he has been asking for. He needs a new bed really. Last night he asked if he could have a full size air mattress. I'm sort of tempted to get him one and 2 sheet sets to go with it. Is bed is REALLY old.

I always think lego's are a great gift for kids. I still have a ton of mine from when I was a kid.

    That is a great idea!

When my income is restored, I'd like to do this.

This year, probably no one is getting gifts from me unless L handles it.  I absolutely don't have the mental energy to even process this.

  • That is so cool Kasa!

I think we are going to get Hudson a Power Wheels.  Jim's been wanting to get him one since he was too old to understand what it was.  He will LOVE it.  I definitely want to look into those Imaginext toys.  Other stuff on his list include legos, books, board games (ex. Hungry, Hungry Hippos and Chutes and Ladders), a backpack and Disney Movies.  My 4-year old nephew is really into Power Rangers right now.  My SIL also wants clothes for him, but I refuse to buy a young kid clothes for Christmas or birthdays.  I just remember how much I hated it when I was little.

  • Mere is getting Calico Critter stuff and a few other odds and ends. She just told me that she wants a new Critter house. Good thing b/c that was the plan :)

  • Mostly we're telling people books or Disney movies.  I'm sure a few toys are thrown in there.

We want to get K a chair.  I've seen them at Meijer, but don't really like the colors they offer.  I know Pottery Barn Kids sells them, but would prefer not to spend that much.  He also needs some bath toys and a net to hold them when not in use.  Also some new sippy cups since he loves biting threw the top of the straws and destroying them.

Of course I looked through the Meijer and Target Christmas ads that came in the paper this weekend.  Oy vey the ideas for toys for him.  I saw that rockin' Elmo, and thought it looked cool too!

It is really cool!  So far we've played with it twice at Target.  He got to play with it a little at Toys'R'Us when I bought the Elmo/Guitar combo pack, and then last night he was occupied with the microphone and keyboard for an hour while I did the rest of my shopping.  He is obsessed.  :)  I had to disctract him once we got home, and snuck both toys into the toy closet to pack away till Christmas.

Check out www.toddlerock.com We bought Brielle a chair & ottoman from there for about $80. She LOVES it & sits in it every day! They have a TON of fabrics to pick from so you can match just about anything!

Mere has a chair from here, too!!! It is the BEST chair I've seen, hands down. She sits in it every day and LOOOOOOOOOVES it. Plus, it's made in the US! She's had it for a year now and it still looks new after her climbing and pushing and pulling on it (granted, she's not very heavy, but she's abusive hehe). Check them out!

  • Willa really really really wants that purple Figit.  Mostly because it's name is Willa, too.  We put that one on the list Jim's parents asked for.

Henry and I went through the ads, and his eyes lit up at wrestling figures and guns.  Sigh.  We are a no gun house, so I hope that's just a quick phase.  I've been told over and over it's not a phase.

I still don't know what we're giving the kids.  I have a few family gifts - movies and games - we'll see.

I just bought that exact one for #1.

And an update, due to a surprise from DH's work, we might be getting Xbox Connect.  I'm going to tear it up on JustDance for reals.

    I love Just Dance.

I've already got the packing tape ready to put over it's little speaker.  That thing is LOUD!

I'm considering offering assylum to my 7 year old nephew.  He was playing a wii game and the remote flung out of his hand with great force.  And it happened to fly right at the huge fancy tv that they have in the basement.  Screen cracked, tv doesn't work.  Nephew grounded for several decades.

DH said that the Wii is losing popularity because it doesn't do as much as the XBox Connect (i.e., DVD player, etc.).  But, my selfish reason for wanting the XBox Connect is because there isn't a controller you hold (which means no airborn game controllers).  Somehow it knows the moves you are making.  That way, during Just Dance I will have to get the moves perfect.  With the Wii, you can cheat a little.

  • The Connect is the one with the sensing eye, right?

"I always feel like, someone is watching me..." ;)

If that you guys get one, I imagine all kinds of Tiger family fun.

Yes, we have quite a few characters in our family ;-).
