Where would you vacation?

FF and I were supposed to be going to Seattle next summer for his step-sister's wedding, but it's been called off. Now we have 2 tickets to anywhere in the US to use before August 6th.

Ideally I don't want to use more than 3-4 vacation days, so maybe like a Thurs-Mon type of thing. It'll be just me and FF, with DS staying either with XH or my mom.

We're talking about Vegas since neither of us has been, but our options for travel are May-July and I think it'll be too hot. (We're goign to FL in March for my college graduation, and those flights are already booked) I'm also not looking to spend a ton of money on 'extras' like shows and whatnot. I know you can get deals to Vegas for flights/hotels, I just worry about all the extra costs I really have no idea where else to go though.

Any suggestions for a quick US getaway?

    I would TOTALLY go to Vegas, but that's just me.  That's the perfect amount of time too, not too long, not too short.  I don't think it'll be too hot.  I've been in late June and it was pretty hot but I think May tends to be more tolerable (like low '90's, but it's a DRY heat). They have screaming deals and there still is a lot to do even if you don't want to spend a lot of money.  I think you guys would have FUN!

    Vegas sounds fun and you don't have to drop a ton of cash there if you don't want to (or so I've heard; I've never been).

    I'm also dying to go to Napa for a few days...

    Continental US? I would maybe go to the virgin islands or the Keys. I mush prefer the beach to almost anything though..

    I'm also a beach person myself...My parents just got back from the Grand Canyon/Arizona and it was absolutely beautiful...

    I'd love to go to the beach, but since we'll have just been in Florida for a week in March, we're leaning towards something else....

    I love Maine... just beautiful and relaxing. Napa is also awesome... You could still go to Seattle, it's a great city!

    I guess it depends on if you want to relax or be more active. Vegas is ok... since neither of you have been, that might be fun to explore together. You can always do days trips to the Grand Canyon and other areas too.

    If you want a foodie vacation, Chicago has lots of great restaurants.  The weather in the New England area is pretty good during that time of year, too...they have beaches, and Cape May is really pretty, and is very close to Newport, RI where you can tour all the mansions!  Or NYC or DC?

    I would either still go to Seattle, or maybe Portland, OR. If you are willing to rent a car, you could even fly into Portland and then spend the few days on the coast or visit some wineries. I was up there in June and it was absolutely beautiful.

    I agree with the previous poster who said you don't have to drop a lot of cash in Vegas. You can usually find tons of good deals and that would be the perfect amount of time.

    I think you should do Vegas. You do not have to spend a lot of money. They have a lot of free stuff to . All the casino are great to just gawk at. Great restaurants, and bars.

    Honestly I think you'll end up dropping way less in Vegas than in Seattle. There are tons of free things to take in, you don't really need to pay for any sort of transportation and the hotel deals are crazy. There are also a lot of good food deals. When I was there I got the $40 buffet food pass. I know it sounds sort of gross, but you could eat at like 7 different buffets as many times as you wanted in 24 hours. Some of the buffets were sketch, but most of them are awesome. And it really kept food costs down. But then again I don't claim to be a foodie:) Check out restaurants.com. A lot of Vegas deals there. And also you can often get free show tickets with a hotel package.

    What about:

    San Francisco (it'll be cool, but you could also take a day-trip to Napa/Sonoma)

    Monterey/Carmel

    New Orleans

    Boston

    Charleston

    Savannah

    It really depends what you want to do.

    Charleston.  Supposed to be beautiful and very romantic.  Lots of restaurant options for foodies.  And there's always the beach!

    Also, Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  I went years ago in May, and the weather was perfect.

    Cape May, NJ?  Not that close to Newport, RI. About a 4-5 hour drive.  

    But New England is a nice option.
