I am an idiot.

My program is ending tomorrow so before I start my new job I am taking a trip to Myrtle Beach to visit my mom for a week. I have been so insanely busy wrapping up this program (this is my excuse for the following) and my mind is in about 100 places. My dad booked the flight and sent me the confirmation. I didn't check it until yesterday to see what time my flight was today. I didn't even look at the date, I knew, or thought I knew, we said Wed-Tues so I just needed the time.

DH dropped me off at 7:30, flight at 9, I go to check in at American Airlines and they can't find my check in information. I realize I am on US Airways, not AA, no idea how I screwed that up. I walk to US Airways and they also can't find my information. Finally the ticket agent said, "um, ma'am, you um, don't fly until tomorrow...". Seriously?! I apologized about 100 times and quietly walked away then had to laugh at myself because what else can I do.

I guess I should be more mindful of flight information... Of course poor DH had to turn around to get me, sit in even more traffic, and we'll do it all over again tomorrow!

Re: I am an idiot.

  • Eeck!!! I've been traveling for work so much lately that I'm always paranoid that I'm going to miss a flight because I have the times screwed up.

This week I'm in Detroit and someone on my team thought I was leaving on Thursday when I'm actually leaving on Friday.  I double checked all of my travel info just to confirm when I was leaving!

Good thing this happened on the way to vacation and not on the way home. Sure, it'd be nice to have an extra day somewhere warm, but it would stink to have to unpack and then head back to the airport the next day.

  • LOL!  I would be such a mix of annoyed at myself and amused.    At least you'll get there eventually!   And for some reason I always mix up USAir and AA too.

does this mean you're flying home on Wednesday?  good luck!  (I hate flying that wednesday!)

    have fun at the beach...jealous!

  • I did something similar today with a meeting.  I knew it was at 10am and assumed it was at the location that they are always so I did not read the rest of the memo until this morning.  I was supposed to be in Hanover instead of my office downtown, ooops.

No, still flying home Tuesday, I at least had that part correct! I remember telling my dad not to have my fly that Wednesday just because it's so busy but I bet Tuesday will still be pretty busy as well. And I'm glad I'm not the only one mixing up USAir and AA!

  • Um, it could be worse- one time I went to BWI for a flight that was actually out of DULLES!

It was pre-9/11 and I drove like a maniac and made the flight.

I'm always super paranoid I'm going to do something like this.

  • yuck.... glad things worked out.... even though you have to do it all again tomorrow!!!  I HATE US Airways with a passion, so I can never confuse them with anyone.

I do use tripit (app and website) for my scheduling....  I fly way too many flights, hotels, rental cars to track email.  I love that app!  It syncs my email and creates the travel for me.  So much easier and free.

This is what I thought you were going to say too!

Don't feel bad though, I see all of these scenarios on a daily basis. Passengers booking their itinerary backwards, showing up a day late or a day earlier, wrong airline, wrong airport. It's still a pain for you but you are far from alone!
