Best part supply place? And home decor?

Odd two part question!

I've got a little girl having a birthday party, and it's her first birthday here in Seattle, with no family nearby (usually, we have a very largee family birthday) so I want to make it really special - where are the best party supplies stores? From invites to day of stuff?

And on a totally separate note...since we've moved, I wanted to do a bunch of redecorating. My go-to a home was Homesense (like...the Nordstrom Rack of home decor - everything from furniture to sheets to wall art) but I don't know what a comparable option would be here? I'm lost! Where are your go to places for home decor?

I'm on the Eastside, but am happy to head where ever!

  • i'm no help on the party supplies, since i'm a DIY kinda person.....

for furniture, H and i got a lot of our furniture at the macy's outlet or mor funiture. both are in the southcenter/renton/tukwila area.

  • For party supplies you should check out Party @ Display & Costumes in Northgate http://www.displaycostume.com/store/home.php?cat=

OR if you feel more DIY-like, you could check out a Michael's or a Paper Zone - http://paperzone.com/

I'm no help with home decor, since I mainly get my furniture from CL or Ikea...

  • There's a huge party supply store at The Landing in Renton; that's all i know.

For decorating, try TJ Maxx.  The selection is small, but often good.  Marshalls (also at the landing) is worth checking out, too.  There's a store up north (B'ham) called Tuesday Morning that looks like they'd be that sort of store, but i don't know for sure, and i'm not sure if they are down here.   Pier 1 and World Market aren't discount stores, but have some neat things.

  • I have been to Tuesday Morning a couple of times up here in Bham and they dont have much furniture. I would even dare to say, no furniture at all.

I agree with the girls, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or even Ross, Target and Walmart may have good stuff at times.

  • Party supplies: I'd order custom things off of etsy.

There are a ton of awesome furniture consignment stores in near Pioneer Sqaure (around the area where Dania is). They have mostly newer stuff with some mid century and a few antiques mixed in. It's not IKEA cheap, but it's a lot cheaper than buying it new.

TJ Maxx, Ross, Target, and Tuesday Morning are good options too. There are a few Tuesday Mornings in the Seattle area, so you don't have to drive up the Bham.

  • Thank you, thank you.

It's really overwhelming to start from scratch, I have to say!

I did really well at Z Gallerie in Redmond. And I could spend a fortune and days in U-Village at Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn...but when I want a funky, bright turquoise pillow, I don't really want to break the bank!

I'm obsessed with Craiglist here, too. I bought a dresser yesterday that's going to get a coat of bright yellow paint and become a sideboard ASAP. We did not have nearly the options for used stuff at home!

Another huge difference is Target. We don't (yet) have Target in Canada so the go to store, by default, is Walmart. I've yet to even see a Walmart here and I'm loving it! It's awesome to have a different option.

Also, I'm loving online ordering - shipping to Canada is only possible half the time, and costs a small fortune. Here, it's fast and often free or at least really inexpensive and you can get anything and everything - old hat to you guys, I'm sure but a heck of a lot of fun for a newbie! :)

I got package deliveries three times so far today!
