    I totally agree with the article.  I think society, parents, religion, media, etc have all tried to control teens in a way that is causing them to rebel and go against what is expected.  I like the Dutch attitude of "if you expect self-control and give people an opportunity to exercise it, you might get more of it."

    I like that they point out that in the US there is such a strong connection that religion and god automatically leads to being a better, more moral person.  People seemed to think you can only have morality and a strong social fabric if you believe in a higher authority, a God that would otherwise punish [people].  It's just not the case 100% of the time.

    The attitude in the US seems to be "just don't do it, it's bad" without any discussion where the Dutch use sexuality as a learning and development tool. There needs to be more focus stateside on building healthy relationships....kids and parents as well as kids and their peers.  I can tell you that my parents had a more "Dutch" approach to sexuality and I was not one to experiment or put myself in bad situations.  It's a responsibility and one that kids need to be taught.
