Since we have moved to Chicago, we have decided to take our 2BR condo off the market and get renters (as the government will pay for property management for a couple of years.) The agent that is on our case has yet to find renters. I find this surprising because we have such a great location. (But I also understand it is tough this time of year.)
Right now she has advertised at the traditional websites like Zillow, Trulia and some military housing websites. We have listed on Craigslist, sent an email to our old coworkers and I mentioned something in a post on Facebook. I had the agent put up fliers in the buildings in our complex, as people frequently change units within our complex. I also made the suggestion of advertising at Georgetown since we are walking distance.
Help! Where else should I be looking? (FWIW, we started advertising 6 days ago and are in Rosslyn.)
Re: Where to advertise for renters
We just moved yesterday and we found the place on craigslist. Is the agent responding quickly to the ads? That may be why she isn't finding anyone.
The rental market here is serious business, I'm shocked you haven't had at least applications after 6 days. There were 4 places we were interested in that were listed and before we could see them that day after work were already rented before we found our current place.
Stand up for something you believe in.
when we were apartment hunting in late 2009/early 2010, almost all the places we checked out were found via craigslist. i definitely think posting at georgetown or even mentioning that you are walking distance in the listing headline would be a good idea.
good luck! i'd love a 2 bedroom walking distance from g-town but we just signed our lease for a year in september.
We have consistently found renters through Craig's List.
I think your problem may be the time of year though. People don't want to move around the holidays. We put my house up for rent in December 2009 and it didn't get rented until March 2010. This time around, we put the same house up for rent (even raised the rent) in July and we had multiple applications within 1 day.
Absolutely I agree. Unfortunately the timeline is out of my control!
Good news: Got some response from my latest Craigslist ad! Heres to hoping!
