I need ideas re: classic Christmas movies

H's company has a huge Christmas party every year and everyone dresses up in "fancy dress."  This year the theme is classic Christmas movies. So...

1.  What's your favorite Christmas movie?

2.  Who should we dress up as?  :)

I NEED HELP!

Re: I need ideas re: classic Christmas movies

  • The Bells of St Mary - a priest and a nun?

Holiday Inn - Just 1950's evening clothes?

Those are great ideas.  I kind of love the idea of 50's evening clothes.

  • 1.  What's your favorite Christmas movie? -- White Christmas

    2.  Who should we dress up as? -- I have no idea.  But the costumes from that movie always make me drool longingly.  I need Edith Head in my life!

  • A Christmas Story.

The Leg Lamp and the dad in 50s clothes, button up sweater, cords, nice shoes.

    Or kid in bunny suit.

  • I mentioned A Christmas Story to H.  How does one dress up as a leg lamp, though?  hehe.
  • My favourite is Elf with Will Ferrel... not a "classic" as such, maybe a "modern classic"

You could dress up as Buddy and Deb (his girlfriend in the film...)

That's a classic to me.  I love that movie.

  • Christmas doesn't start for me until I see Love Actually.  So....

I'd go as Colin Frissell and one of his American chicks.  Colin could wear a backpack and the girl a cowboy hat with short skirt.

If you're American and your H English it would be quite perfect.  And Colin could shout out "Watch out America, here comes Colin Frissell, and he's got a big knoooooob!"

    Gahh, I love that movie!

    BEST.  MOVIE.  EVER.

And I second the idea with 50s dress up clothes...very cute!

  • The Grinch who stole Christmas? One of you gets to paint their face green and the other is the dog with the reindeer antler hat? :-)

Yes  I was gonna say the Grinch, it's the best christmas movie ever! I also love The Santa Clause and Home Alone, but those are harder to dress up as.

  • Love the Grinch!  We could be Whos from Whoville.
  • If you do Love Actually you HAVE to go as the Christmas lobster and octopus.  HAVE TO.

My friend and her H did the leg lamp a few Halloweens ago.  It was awesome.  Here is a pic.

So I can see the picture before I post, but it doesn't show up, I don't know why.  She is wearing a black shirt and a lampshade as a skirt with black tights and black heels.

He is wearing a box which says This End Up Fragile.

  • You could both dress up as Cousin Eddie from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

    Cousin Eddie outfits:

White robe with fur trooper hat: "Sh!!tter's full!" scene

White v-neck sweater, black dickey, moose mug: eggnog scene

Or one of you could be Clark with a bad 80s Christmas sweater, santa hat, and Christmas lights wrapped around you.

Or you could be Cousin Eddie's wife Catherine. Here's an interpretation of the costumes: http://www.flickr.com/photos/merfam/2991349167/

  • my faves are It's a wonderful life and Love Actually

You could dress your H as Clarence the angel in his long night gown and George when he is all  drunk and been beaten up?

Or you could do Charlie Brown Christmas? That might be easier.

  • I don't know any Brits that know the Christmas Story.  Whenever I bring it up, people have a blank look on their face.

I like It's a Wonderful Life with George and Clarence

A Christmas Carol with tiny Tim and Scrooge

I also like being Whos from Whoville from the Grinch.

  • Y'all are so awesome.  Seriously.  I told H I've got a lot of ideas for him.

rpic, I'm really considering that leg lamp dress.  It looks SOOO short though.  I think my whole arse would be showing.

I hadn't thought of that. Wear some bicylce shorts or something underneath. Problem solved

  • Don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but Holiday Inn was released in 1942, and I'm pretty sure it takes place in late 20s or so (I'm not positive, but I think I remember on New Years Eve it ticking over to 1929).  So 1950s evening clothes wouldn't really work.

     Just thought I'd mention it....

  • Way to burst bubbles, Avion.  j/k I've never seen Holiday Inn so I don't know anything about it.

Update on party:  My H is full of it.  I kept asking him when the party was and what the theme was so last night he told me Dec. 9 and christmas movies is the theme.  He just emailed me now and said it's the 16th and the theme is Hollywood.  I like how he just made that up.  I was getting excited about being a leg lamp.  :(

  • HA, he just didn't want to wear the pink bunny costume.   Elegant Hollywood sounds like a fun theme though:-)

  • Both of my ideas were already posted.  I was going with a Christmas Story and the rabbit pyjamas and National Lampoons and dressing as cousin Eddy and Catherine.
