Tarpon Springs-ish?

What are some other little cute areas that are similar to Tarpon Springs? Like a picturesque area with some shops, restaurants, etc? Dunedin and Safety Harbor come to mind. Anything else I am missing? Thinking of a place I could take my family during T-giving weekend. Gotta get them away from the hideousness that is New Tampa right now.

Re: Tarpon Springs-ish?

  • Johns Pass? touristy, but it has shops/restuarants & beach

  • I agree with John's Pass, H and I go there sometimes and even though it's only like 30 min drive for us, we always feel like we are on vacation.  They have lots of great restaurants, ice cream and fudge shops, bars, some touristy shops, and it's very walkable.  Plus if you hang out on the boardwalk you can usually see dolphins.  There is also a dolphin sightseeing cruise that leaves from their dock.

St. Armands in Sarasota is also super cute with tons of restaurants and shops, a little more on the upscale side.

  • Cool, thanks girls!

I second this. Just went there this weekend and it is ADORABLE. And we went to a delicious little Italian place.

  • What is John's Pass?  I've never heard of it. I think that would be a nice place to go when I drag my a$$ back out to Tampa.

    It's in Madeira beach - http://johnspass.com/

It has a few touristy surf shops, and quite a few other kinds of shops. a boardwalk type thing with shops & ice cream that goes right by the water.. (Dirty water, but water just the same). I thinkt hey have jet ski rentals, boat rides. There is a bubba gump shrimp co (...but now that I write that I remembered you're vegan, so not sure how that would work out for ya, ha ;)   ) ...  there is a bar called Gators across the waterway from Johns Pass.
