Hi there ladies. I posted this on Philadelphia Babies board, too.
My DH and I are traveling to CHOP tomorrow for a consult and we're coming from York, which is about 30 min south of Harrisburg. Our appt at CHOP is at 7:15 a.m. tomorrow and according to Mapquest, it will take us 2 hours to get there. The directions have us taking Rt. 222 North to the PA Turnpike. We'll ultimately be getting off at the South St. exit.
Is there any construction going on in those areas and what is traffic like during the times we'll be potentially traveling (5:15 a.m.-7:15 a.m.)? I am hoping since our appointment is fairly early that we'll avoid major rush hour traffic but we're not that familiar with the area. We obviously don't want to be late and we necessarily don't want to get there super early since we don't know what's around there. So I was hoping you ladies could give me some info. Thanks so much!
Re: XP: Central PA bumpie traveling to CHOP; area traffic ?
I'd allow yourself at least 2.5 hours. You shouldn't hit traffic that early but you'll travel the stretch of 76 East near Conshohocken that always backs up, no matter the day or time. Also, CHOP is a very large campus so you need to account for time to park at a garage and walk/find your office. Best of luck.
Okay haven't been on that route in about 8 weeks so take this with a grain of salt. (grew up in York travel home monthly but had a baby so no travel lately)
I stopped taking 222 home because there has been construction on it for a few months, so I stayed on TP until the 83 exit. BUT that was daytime construction.
HOWEVER the last few times I've been on the turnpike they've had nighttime construction between Lancaster and KOP. I've only been stopped for about 10 minutes but not sure what time night time construction wraps up.
So I'd cal 2.5 hrs and if you're early NBD
Good luck with your appt.
I hope everything goes well at your appointment.
