Random Baby Name Question/Chat

1.) When considering a middle name, do you think about what it sounds like with your last name? (ex: I was leaning towards Adelyn Kate... but Adelyn Kate C**** doesn't sound very good).

2.) I taught a "Precious" the other day. Gag.

3.) The strangest name I've ever heard (also teaching) was Trinity- last name... Infinity. Trinity Infinity. REALLY!?

I do think about it as a whole name. I also love middle names that mean something, so I add that too

2.) I taught a "Precious" the other day. Gag.

My SIL's cousin's name is Princess

3.) The strangest name I've ever heard (also teaching) was Trinity- last name... Infinity. Trinity Infinity. REALLY!?

I love the name Trinity. With that last name though... yikes

  • I didn't really consider the middle name with the last name, no.

I think Adelyn Kate C------- sounds good, but I like alliteration (and assuming I'm saying your last name correctly!!)

My random thought is I need to start thinking about how things sound with Jane!  I was choosing a "K" boys name for the other post and I came across "Kane" - which is a family last name and I was thinking "huh, that's cool" and then I realized I'd have a Jane and a Kane, LOL!!!

I will never understand. Even as a nickname, things like that get under my skin... but as your NAME?! Ahh!

I hope that doesn't apologize you... being your cousin and all. I'm sure she's a lovely person. :)

DH didn't seem to mind it either. And in reality, how often do you say your WHOLE name? When I'm yelling at Nolan, I say his first and middle name... not FN, MN, LN... lol.

And I'm LOLing about Jane and Kane. I do like the name Kane, different but not out there. But yes, you may get the side eye with that sib-set. ;)

  • Tiff- I think it's a horrible name too. She's my brother's wife's cousin, so no relation to me. I just met her at a wedding once. She was a total Princess too, she lived up to the name.

I also can't stand when people use the last name to make something cute. The poor cute kid has to be an adult with that name. I went to school with Charlie (not Charles) Brown. Substitute teachers would always send him to the principal for being a troublemaker on the attendance sheets.

  • I like Adelyn Kate, but I also like alliteration (hence why I like so many J names).  I assume your last name is Coo-Dock? If so, I think it's cute!

  • I didn't think it would... just making sure. ;)

And really? People do that!? I've never met anyone with a name like Charles Brown, lol. *shakes head* Sometimes I think parents must be smoking crack when they fill out the birth certificate.

I have a cousin whose name is Kortney. The name itself is fine and all, but they actually admit that the reason it's spelled that way is they "couldn't remember" the right way to spell it. Yeah, ridiculous.

That's it! Good job. :) Most people butcher it. Well maybe I'll keep it on the list after all. :)

  • Yes I do think how it will sound. I do call Evie by her full name. I especially want the first and middle to go together. But the last needs to go too.

I like middle names to mean something also. Well at least the ones we were considering means something to me. (Philip is DH middle name and Irene is my middle name)

  • I thought about how the FN, MN, and LN sounded together when we picked out the kids' full names. We also took into account what their initials would spell. We originally were going to name Kellen, Sean Taylor D*****....but his initials would have been STD, so that was a no go. I call both Kellen and Tessa by their whole names all the time, especially when they are doing something they aren't supposed to.

I went to camp with a girl named Sparkle. It was her actual name, not a nickname either. Her brother's name was Leroy. It never really made sense to me, but whatever you like I guess.

That's another thing I don't get, when one kid has a different name and the other is completely common. Another sib set i know, Clint and his sister Tuesday. Huh?

  • I always think of the full name, but that might be because of my maiden name.  I think I have mentioned this before, my Aunt's full name was Betty May Sweat.  Yikes.

  • 1. Yes. I like the full name to flow.

    2. I went to school with Philip A. Beer. His middle name was really just A.

  • I certainly consider all three names together - intial wise, sound wise, and DH doesn't want our kids to have three names with 6 letters....he acknowledges that this makes him sound like a nut but he sticks by it.

And UGH on those names.  Trinity Infinity?  Unless your kid is growing up to be a superhero (incredibly unlikely, but I won't rule it out) that will look silly on a resume.

    Anniversary
  • Yes, I do consider the flow of the entire name, but I think Adelyn Kate C---- sounds great knowing your last name.

If you gagged at Precious, you would have loved teaching my troublemaker student named Preshus.  (Not kidding, sadly.)

    Married in 2008 - DD born in 2010 - EDD 6.15.2012!
  • 1.) The onjly thing I consider for a middle name is that it doesn't make the kid's initials spell something bad.  Example: my cousin Alicia whose middle name was almost Sylvia.  Her last name begins with an "S" so her initials would've been A.S.S.  Awkward!

2.) I had an intake recently with a patient named Beauty.  She wasn't ugly at least.  Oh, and there's the time I had a patient name her son Umajisty.

3.) I know a lot of people with "strange names".  When I studied abroad in Ghana there was a guy in a class named Godfather because his parents really liked the movie.  I also knew a Frigidaire because his parents were the 1st in his village to get a fridge (Togo).

This! I like the entire name to flow but love Adelyn Kate, and it sounds great with your last name.  Love it!
