A Canadian friend of mine is getting married, and the couple is moving to Singapore very soon after that. Any ideas on what to give as a wedding present?
I was thinking some cash or a gift card. I don't want to give any "stuff" that'll just be a burden for their move. If I give cash, which currency? Are visa gift cards widely accepted? will the be charged a lot of fees?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Re: wedding gift ideas?
If you want to do an iTunes gift card, you can go to the iTunes store and order one online. I can't seem to get them to do an e-gift-card (apparently neither FI or I have the right "permissions" on our iTunes account), but I could get them to mail a physical gift card, in American dollars, to the recipient.
For the wedding gift, I vote cash in dollars. Most flexible.
I also vote cash. Gift cards sometimes don't work abroad or get charged exorbitant fees abroad.
As a second choice, I like the idea of getting a gift card for an e-reader if they have one.
It's really thoughtful of you to think about this, we got a ton of 'stuff' for wedding gifts and it's all just sitting in my dad's basement!
Cash is always a great gift. If you want something more personal, you could get them a book about where they're moving or maybe a g/c for a dinner out before they leave? Packing up a whole house can be stressful and it might be nice for them to have a night out where they don't have to worry about anything.

So maybe this is a bit difficult, but it would be really cool to have an expirence when they get to their new city. Like seeing a show, a couple massage, going to a new place etc.
As much as I loved getting cash, I also loved getting X from aunt Sue or Y from BFF.
Sometimes I don't want to spend money on those type of things but I would LOVE to do them. It would be great to know a new place as well.
