Well today is the big day!

Interview at 1:45! Any tips or advice? I have a nice outfit, I know the general stuff, firm handshake, good eye contact, not um's and ah's, I have my answers ready for the typical strengths and weaknesses question, I have a couple questions of my own, anything else you can think of?

Re: Well today is the big day!

  • What are the questions you have for them?  What's the position for?  (trying to think of things to help)

  • Good luck!!

Yesterday in an interview I was asked "what is one thing you would improve about yourself" and that one caused me to pause for a minute. I expected the typical questions but not that one.

  • Why are you the right person for this job?

    Good luck!

  • It's a Court Assistant... Basically admin... Which I have 10 years of experience doing. I got the questions from a friend who works in an HR dept... She said these are good ones to ask... "What type of person do you feel would excel in this position?" and "Are there opportunities for advancement such as promotions or raises?"
  • GOOD luck!  Confidence is key.  Make them know how much of an asset you would be.  I like the idea of pretending like you are already in the role, almost like acting.  That gives me a sense of confidence.

  • Be yourself!  (I suck at interviews)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Those are good questions!

If they ask if you have experience doing things and you don't have hands on experience but have had exposure, mention that.

If you want the position at the end of the interview, tell them so.  Employers are more likely to give the job to the person who expressed interest in the position by actually saying that they want the job, want to work there, etc.

  • Bring extra copies of your resume, just in case, and a folio/pen to take notes.  Be sure to jot down names so that you can send thank you notes later!

    ETA: Good luck!

  • Good luck to you!
  • Good luck! Did your SIL ever figure out that the 17th was not weds?

  • Yeah I think so... She should be leaving here in just a bit to head over to her interview. I have no idea if she knows about me. I haven't said a single word. BF's mom asked what would happen if I ran into her there. I said "nothing, she'll be done so she can't say anything bad about me" then she goes "well what will you say to her?" I said "Hi!" My thought, if she's got a problem with it I'll politely tell her she has no say over that job and kindly remind her she said she wasn't going to take it. If she insists on going on about it I'm going to ignore her. I REALLY hope she doesn't start anything...
  • Be sure to write a thank you note, on actual paper, and mail it today when you get home. Good luck!

I disagree with this.  If you have been communicating by email, send an email thank you letter.  By the time snail mail gets to them, they will have already thought you didn't email a TY and cross you off the list of potential candidates.
