Poll: Cool family names you'd use for baby

What cool/unusual/fun family names do you or DH have that you'd think about using for baby?

Re: Poll: Cool family names you'd use for baby

  • My MIL's middle name is Sweet (it's not her maiden name, she's just Carol Sweet). I think that's a cute middle name to pass down to a little girl.

  • Roan, Carroll, Berenice, Barrett

  • I love Emery, my grandmother's maiden name, but it was never considered because I have a niece Emily already. Harrison is another maiden name on my side, but that's pretty popular right now.

There isn't much on H's side. His family is Czech and Polish, so the last names don't make good first names.

  • My great grandfather's name was Veree and my grandmother's middle name was Atlee. I would have loved to use them as middle names, but DH would have never gone for it. I also wouldn't have minded using a Japanese name or something as a middle name for both of them. My parents' considered doing so with me, but decided against it since they didn't with my sister. I think it would have been nice to include some of their heritage in their name.
  • We did the Esther/Stella/Rosella combo with Molly Estelle. My mom was a Darling, but I won't use that.
  • I might have to do some digging back on my mom's side to find something. Nothing comes to mind. My dad had an Aunt Clara. We're kind of close to that with Claire.

  • There isn't much I would call "cool"... but perhaps I will name my daughter Trixie...

My MIL wanted me to use McGregor or Sterling from her side of the family. Just because they were her ideas I nixed them.

  • We don't have much that I would use. My aunt is Kay, which I like as a middle name.  Gma is Betty.  I have a lot of Ann's.

My grandpa is Hardin, which I always liked.

DH has a grandma whose name was Annie Arvella. Arvella is kinda cute.

  • Most of our names are pretty ordinary and others are names I wouldn't consider like Gay for example. The only *special* one I would consider is Willadean after Dh's grandma. It's nms at all but her husband used to call her Dean and I loved it. DH is anti family names though so I doubt he would go for it.

Oh and we thought my middle name was cool enough to pass down for miss Molly.

  • My brother's middle name is Flynn which I think would be a cool first name. However, I have recently discovered that I prefer traditional names, when it comes to naming my future children.
  • Lots!

Grandmas':  One's name was Gloria Adele, the other's MN was Mae
    Grandpa's FN:  Henry; love it!
Aunt's MN:  Adaire; love this, too!
My Dad's MN:  Lane; I've always planned to use Laine as a MN for a girl
A great (x2 or 3) uncle:  Theodore (Theo)

  • Cullen is VERY similar to my maiden name, which is why we chose it for DS (and NO it didnt have anything to do with Twilight...I had it picked out LONG before it came out).  If we had a girl, one of our names was Alice because it was both of my grandmother's names (and my middle name).  DH's step-grandpa's name was Emerson and we liked that name for a girl too.

  • I also love my grandmother's name, but H vetoed it. Edythe. She was ahead of the game in y for i trend. However she spelled her nn Edyie, I'm not a fan of that.
  • My great grandmother was Geneva Lillian which I love.  A large part of my lineage is full of the last name Henry, so it would be a great choice.  My maiden name means angel in German, so I often thought of using something that means angel for one of my kids, but I don't like any of the names unfortunately.

DH's family is full of Italian names like Vincenzo, Salvatore, Lorenzo, etc.  I love those types of names, but since our last name is Scottish I think they seem out of place for our baby, unfortunately.

    Married in 2008 - DD born in 2010 - EDD 6.15.2012!
  • Fatima was my great grandma's name.  I love the name but worry about kids calling her "fatty", especially since DH & I are fat & she may end up chubby too.  Fatima means "field" in Portuguese & is also the sight of a Marian apparition.

DH's grandma's name is Laxmi (pronounced "Luck-shmee") which I think is very pretty but I worry about people effing up the spelling.  Laxmi is the goddess of wealth.

I see the name Lakshmi a lot too and I pronounce it Locks-mee. Is this the same type of name but spelled differently or am I saying it wrong?

  • I think the 1st syllable can go either way ("luck" or "lock") but the last syllable I've only ever heard as "shmee".

  • I'd love to use the name Abbott.  It was my Dad's middle name and my Grandma's maiden name.  DH said no to naming DD that, which is why Abbigail has 2 b's.

  • We've actually been looking through our family trees for names lately.

DH's great-grandmother's name was Emilia and she went by Emily. We actually didn't know her legal name was Emilia until DH started doing some geneology stuff. Unfortunately, Emilia wouldn't work with our last name, but Emily would.

  • My Great Grandfather his middle name was Valentine. I want to use it as a middle name for my one of my future children girl or boy. I thought it sounded like a cool middle name.
  • I don't know if there are any particularly "cool" names, but there are definitely some names I love/think would be fun....

    boy: Henry, Axel, Edison, Gilbert

girl: Lilla (I so badly wanted to use it this time, but the "la" was too much with our last name) & Estelle
