DH & I are thinking of getting a treadmill for ourselves this xmas...does anyone have one they really love? I'm worried about it being too loud as I stomp on it...any thoughts on that aspect? I'm willing to go cheap and get a foldable one, but DH is a tech nerd and wants one with all the bells and whistles, so we are currently at an impass.
Re: Own a treadmill?
We bought this one from Sears last January:

DH or I run on it everyday, and so far, it's been great. It's a bit loud if you are in the same room as it (or probably downstairs from it) but it's in our basement so we don't notice.
If you really want to run on one, it's worth it to spend the money for a good one (I was told to expect to spend at least $1K for a new one) that will be able to absorb the shock of running so that it's comfortable for you and has a motor powerful enough to withstand running and frequent use.
You can usually find a lot of barely used Treadmills on Craigslist. We considered buying one from there but were worried that something would go wrong, and we didn't have the time last January to worry about that. We just needed some way to get exercise before we turned into fat blobs.
I don't know if they make this particular model anymore, but we bought one from Sears in 2007 or 2008 and it's worked very well for us: http://www.mysears.com/ProForm-XP-Weight-Loss-620-Treadmill-reviews
It's a fold-up we use in our basement. It can be a little loud. I think it was about $600 and it came with a 1-year warranty. We had it delivered and assembled. Otto and I used it very regularly - at least 3-5 times a week. Don't know how many miles we've put on it, but I trained for 2 marathons using it a lot for the regular "shorter" runs of 3-5 miles and some of the long ones as well. Recently we had to buy a new belt for it ($100), but other than that it's still running strong.
