  Cash monies = ALWAYS a good idea. So is gift cards? I have the opposite problem as you Crabby, I can always think of things I need.

  I'm with ya, Crabby. The only things I really need right now are boring, practical and non-gift things, like bras, a haircut and a dental cleaning - or big house type things like a loveseat and an entertainment center.

  I'm with you. There are things that I could use (new bras, new jeans, new boots, etc) but they aren't things that I want someone else to buy for me.

  My parents don't believe in cash or gift cards. I've even tried to tell them exactly what I want, and they say that takes the fun out of gift shopping too. 

  I really don't want people to buy things for me.

  In the past I have asked for a new stock pot, new cookie sheets, new bath towels etc. Its random stuff but things I need to replace.

  Yep.  I start making a list of random crap I 'need' but don't need immediately in like September... a Misto, a mandoline, a Keurig, various bar things, a new calendar, stuff like that.  I also make notes of things I'm into that generally aren't too expensive, like Anne Taintor stuff, Charley Harper prints or notecards and houndstooth print.  Otherwise I just gawp like an idiot when people ask, heh.

  If you really do not want anything, then next time when they ask you what you want tell them that you really do not want anything right now but if they really want to give you something then they can give you the gift cards so that in case you want anything later you can use their gift cards or cash would be fine....
  But you can not ask directly cash from them so it is better to ask them to give you the gift cards.....

  Really? So I've been doing it wrong all these years? Well, shiit.

  If you can ask for gift cards, you can ask for cash.
