We filled up a 16' POD yesterday. Barely made a dent in our stuff! One of the things that our REA suggested we move was a barber cabinet from our main floor bathroom. I took her advice and can store the tp & towels that were in there in the adjacent room's closet. The only thing I am wondering about is what to do about a garbage can. It used to be hidden in the cabinet. I have a spare I can put in there for the time being, but don't think it would be a good idea to have it out when we are showing. So I could stick it in the closet too.
But I can see myself forgetting to do this when I am trying to round up the kids and cat to leave the house. Maybe I should have a check list for things to do before we leave for a showing? Do you have one? What do you have on yours?
Re: Do you keep a check list for when you leave for showings?
Okay. To clarify:
I now have no garbage can in my bathroom.
The one I will add will be exposed.
I'm guessing that won't look great and I should move it during a showing.
I worry I won't remember to hide it every time.
I think I ought to have a list.
What else could I put on the list?
I hate to regress back to the "exposed toothbrush" drama from the other day, but I would not be bothered by a trash can (unless it was overflowing with trash, which i'm sure it wouldn't be). I would leave it but i'm sure others will disagree.
I have a short mental list of stuff to do before a showing but nothing that involves anything major. My list was structured in such a way that Dh could prep without me there and live to tell about it. lol
I kept a check list on my phone so I didn't have to worry about missing something in the last minute frezy. Here are some of the items:
Make sure all beds are made and rooms are picked up
Open all curtains and blinds and make sure all windows are clean (we have kids and a dog so there are always nose and hand prints on them)
Turn on all lights to make house feel welcoming
Don't have full laundry baskets sitting around
Empty all trash cans (including kitchen, bathrooms, and diaper bins)
Clean up all toys (this included putting all toys into a chest and all big toys into a deck box we have)
Wipe down all counters and bathrooms
General cleanliness of entire house
The list saved us! We went on the market 10 days after I had DS2 and I was going 50 directions on no sleep so I couldn't have done it without having a list with me at all times. It also helped becasue as I thought of something I just added it to the list.
Yep, I had a list before heading out. I don't remember the specifics right now, but some of the stuff was:
Put dog's dish and beds in the garage
Turn on all the lights/open blinds and curtains
Make all the beds
Put all toys in bins
Wipe down counters
Throw out trash
Put away stuff in showers and toothbrushes (didn't see the post the other day, so LOL!)
I miss how clean my house was during showings, although I don't miss the stress!
I always did a cleaning of the house, and picked everything up and made sure everything was clean/sparkling. I also emptied all the trash, and hid laundry baskets or put dirty laundry in the trunk of my car. I took my dog someplace else and put away all signs of him (food bowls, leashes, dog bed, crate). I moved my kid's high chair out to the corner of the garage.
Otherwise, I would just do a long 'walk-through' of the house with a handful of packages of wipes - Windex wipes, antibacterial/multi-purposes wipes, Pledge wood wipes - and pull out whatever type I needed to make sure everything was good
