What to cook for houseguests?

we'll have 7 houseguests from Wednesday night to Sunday morning. other than thanksgiving day and fri (leftovers), i'm not feeling it to come up with what to cook.....any ideas??

Re: What to cook for houseguests?

  • Something totally different from what your thanksgiving meal is like, but super easy.

    Spaghetti & meatballs

    Pizza

Big green salad (maybe spinach salad with chicken, strawberries, mushrooms, pecans, and bacon like La Madeleine, with balsamic dressing).

  • A big pot of chili is my go-to meal for entertaining, not a lot of work to cook it & everyone can build it the way they like.

Tacos are another good meal for feeding a large group of people.

A couple of lasagnas is another option that is generally loved by most.

  • i'm going to sound totally annoying.....but i just finished off a pot of chili i ate on for literally 2 wks; i'm making a salad on tday to snack on before dinner; we just had spaghetti twice for dinner this week!.....i do like the lasagna idea!
  • breakfast ideas are welcome too :-)

  • I am having houseguests this coming week as well.  French toast casserole or overnight oatmeal work well for a crowd.  After T-day, I probably won't make anything too heavy, just juice and muffins or something like that.

For dinner I will do a stir fry one night, the night before T-day I am making crockpot enchilada soup.  You could also make enchiladas with the leftover turkey.

  • a big ole vat of dirty rice is my go-to meal for gatherings.  I have a super yummy recipe that is a cinch to double, triple, quadruple.

  • pulled pork

    chicken tacos

    taco/nacho bar

    jambalaya

  • PW's cinnamon rolls!  You can make and freeze them.  So freaking good.

After thanksgiving, turkey quesadillas with rice and beans.

  • Quiche and monkey bread would cover two breakfasts. I like these because I like cooking shortcuts. You can use a Pet Ritz pie crust for the quiche and frozen rolls or Pillsbury biscuits for the monkey bread.

Ooooh, I've been hating my gluten allergy b/c I so badly want to try Foodie Bride's pizza monkey bread.

  • thanks for all the ideas ya'll!!
  • This crockpot beef stroganoff recipe would feed 7.

I would cook it about an hour less though.

    Meatball subs?

    Crockpot chicken tacos?

    Crockpot buffalo chicken sandwiches?

This shepherd's pie recipe makes enough for an army (9x13 casserole) and is super hearty.

  • monkey bread, yessss!  also maybe some kind of breakfast casserole. hell, do breakfast for dinner one night.

fajitas/tacos are always good.  and  nice vat of queso-- that'll keep people full ; )

  • My first suggestion for dinner would be spaghetti, salad or something soup/stew/chili. You could do a large pork or beef roast seasoned for tacos and have that.

When my mom has a house full of guests, she always preps some things ahead of time for lunches.  Esp if people are in and out.

Chicken salad - she'll buy some croissant rolls for sandwiches

Brisket - my SD will cook one, then she'll shred & mix it with BBQ sauce for sandwiches

Make up breakfast tacos and wrap individually for a quick breakfast

A pan of cinnamon rolls.  I made these breakfast enchiladas once (from Southern Living) that were really good!
