USAA Travel/Cruises?

Hi there!  Someone over at the Travel board suggested I post over here as well.  I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience booking a cruise or other types of travel through USAA?  I am a member (Dad is a Veteran) and have my mortgage, car/house insurance, etc. etc through them.

Re: USAA Travel/Cruises?

  • I went to the USAA website out of curiosity after reading your post and found the 16-day cruise that my H and I booked for April 2013. I just wanted to compare prices. Even after I selected to redeem the 5000 vacation points we have with USAA the cruise was actually a little more expensive than what we have already booked. I don't get it. I booked directly through Princess, not a special discount travel company, so definitely search around before just assuming USAA has the best deal (I would've thought the same thing!).

  • I've gone on 5 cruises. My favorite place to book through is CruCon.com. They often have specials that offer prepaid gratuities, free spa service, and free meal for 2 in a specialty restaurant. Plus if you see the price drop on your cruise you just email them and they refund the difference.  When I've asked others on cruises where they book, they name CruCon a lot. I've also found great last minute specials on the cruise line websites, but mostly on off-beat lines like Azamara. (They have an awesome one right now for $1799 that leaves right after Thanksgiving for 14 days from Greece to India with $200 on board credit, $300 total for your RT airfare from the US, and it's a balcony.) Azamara is an upper scale line with free wine, etc.
