Re: Flu Shot during pregnancy?

  • I got both the regular one and the H1N1 while I was pregnant - they were the mercury free ones.  My OB highly advised getting them.

  • I got one at my OB appt.  They also highly recommend it.

  • I had the H1N1 and the regular flu shot when I was pregnant with Macy.  I haven't gone around to it but I plan on getting the regular flu shot for this pregnancy as well.  My OB highly recommends I get one.

  • My understanding is that influenza can be very dangerous to a pregnant woman, so, yeah, get one.

Kinda sweet: I got my flu shot before I got pregnant because I knew we were going to TTC, but it was pretty funny when we told my family. My dad is a doctor and without my knowing it, he hauled Khan off and gave him the flu shot himself just because of the outside risk he could get it and my vaccine wouldn't be enough. (Vaccine is quite effective, but still, it was sweet.)

  • I got one of the thermisol free ones. At TGH apparently they're all thermisol free. I get one every year, but definitely got one when I was pregnant.

  • I never left the house, so I never got one.

  • I had a discussion with my ob about this. I heard conflicting opinions on getting the shot. She said a couple years ago it was controversial, but is now highly recommended. It can be very dangerous for mom & baby to have the flu during & after pregnancy. She also said anyone who comes in regular contact with baby should be vaccinated.

  • I got it when pregnant and Brett and Emma got theirs last week. I am a teacher and my risks of getting the flu seemed much higher than any side effects. Although I still need to get it this year. OOPS!
  • I also got mine on my OB's recommendation. He said not only does it protect the mother, but it can help protect the baby after birth. (I don't have any info/research to back this up, but that's what he said!)

I also made my H get one because I'm generally a worrier and I wanted the extra protection. Plus they were doing them for free at his office, so why not?

    This. Better safe than sorry.

  • I've gotten my flu shot the past 3 years and I did this year as well.  Getting sick while pregnant is the pits (I got a cold my first trimester) and there is no way I want the flu.
  • I was pregnant with DS during the height of Swine Flu and I got my flu shot.  I was 8 months pregnant when I got the shot and I came down with the flu the very next day.  Apparently I got the vaccine just a little too late.  Having the flu pregnant is awful and scary.  I say better safe than sorry.

And if it makes you feel better, within one week while I was eight months pregnant I: 1) got the flu shot, 2) came down with the flu, and 3) started the regimen of Tamiflu antivirals.  Even after all of that, DS just turned two this week and he is a very happy and very healthy little boy.

  • I just talked to mt doctor about this yesterday. He said the government highly recommends getting a flu shot, buy if it was his wife be would not recommend it. Him and his wife do not get them buy their kids do. He if a little out there though so I haven't decided yet. I work from home though so I'm not in contact with a lot of people.

  • My OB actually told me his opinion in it is to not get it.  He said tha the treatment if you DO get the FLu is the same whether you are pregnant or not, so it really was not necessary.  He didn't feel I was more at risk because I was pregnant.  to each there own I guess!

  • I never got one while pregnant and I'm glad.  I now know what the shot does to my body and will never have one again as long as I live.

  • I'm going to talk to my OB about it on Monday.  I typically do get them since I work at a school and am surrounded by so many germs.  I didn't get one last year but I've gotten one almost every year since starting to teach 7 years ago.
  • I never got one for either of my pregnancies. I don't normally get a flu shot, so I never thought to ask about getting one while pregnant, and it was never suggested to me to do so.
