Our Australian Shepherd, Sadie, went to the groomer on Monday morning to get shaved. When she came home, you could tell her backside was uncomfortable, but I chalked it up to some mild chafing from being shaved between her legs. It has now gotten progressively worse. Here are her symptoms:
Runs everywhere, won't walk, and runs with her butt tucked.
She sits with her butt tucked and her legs squeezed together instead of laying down.
Whines all the time.
Wants to be let out to go pee all the time.
Chewing on her backside below her tail.
She will get up and try to run away from herself.
The dog is completely miserable. The problem is, I can't see anything wrong. There is no redness, I can't see any nicks or cuts. What do I do? Do I call the groomer and let them know what is going on and see what they say? Do I go to the vet and then take the bill to the groomer if they find something wrong?
I can't take another night of this, she just runs back and forth across our bedroom whining.
Re: HELP! diagnose my dog
Did they express her anal glands? I could see that as a cause for all those things. I would just call the groomer and explain what she's doing, it's probably something like that.
ETA: Anal glands - such a dirty phrase- lol!
This was my first thought too. That happened to our lab and she was acting so weird, took her to the vet they expressed them and she was all better.
