It's for one of DH's co-workers, billed as a "HinJew" wedding - a Hindu ceremony at a Jewish synagogue. Afternoon ceremony with the reception to last long past my bedtime. No way I can shop beforehand. All options require throwing on a cardigan to stay warm, which isn't great, but I don't think a tuxedo jacket (my only other option) would really work. My options:
1. Graphic print dress (navy and off-white with salmon pops), 3/4 sleeves, silky feeling fabric, a bit on the short side for work, but probably more than appropriate for a wedding. I'd probably wear it with navy heels, and would (ugh) have to carry a hip-length winter white cardigan for warmth since it's the only one I have that sorta goes.
2. Black cocktail dress. Short sleeves, ruffles around neckline for interest. Would have to add a cardigan, but I have a wide variety of options. (Pick a color - almost any color.) Could pair with black, tweedy white and black, or cranberry heels.
3. Floral dress (with a 50s-ish party dress cut) last worn to a June wedding. White and black with pops of pink and violet. Would wear with a black or purple cardigan for warmth (it's sleeveless).
What is the least bad option? The black dress seems best in terms of formality, but doesn't seem like the right choice for an afternoon wedding.
Re: What to wear to a wedding on Sunday?
Black cocktail dress with cranberry heels and whatever cardigan would match. Don't do a necklace, because of the ruffles - but wear either an awesome statement bracelet or fancy earrings.
I agree that it doesn't fit with an afternoon wedding, but I think with a cardigan it'll tone it down a notch.

"What is a week-end?"
Ditto Pam and SSW. I went to a 3:00 Catholic wedding in June and was very concerned about what to wear for a daytime wedding, but lots of people wore what I would have considered "evening" attire.
I got a laugh out of "HinJew," never heard that one before!
