Pardon my ignorance, but if you're going to be a SAHM won't you have more time to clean? I have no clue how much time it actually takes to take care of a baby...

I woke up at 4:30 this morning, convinced it had snowed last night. Crying Le sigh.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

cdmay had mentioned getting a housecleaner for me to relieve stress, tension, and blood pressure! i don't want a regular housekeeper, just a onesie twosie kinda deal.

and TBH, i don't know what it takes to take care of a baby, either! we'll find out!

Ohh, I think I missed that. I'm on board with this plan too. Tell your H that this plan has the Husky Seal of Approval.

  • My husband is also completely opposed to having someone clean the house. Yet he does nothing to help clean. It makes me very angry.

I'm the only FT librarian here at work today. Everyone else is away at conferences or workshops (or just off on Fridays). I'm thinking I'm going to go home early. I just don't want to be here. I do have some tasks to get done and then we'll see.

I have no plans for the weekend, so hopefully I can find something fun for DH and I to do! I think we are both tired and need lots of sleep.

have a great snow-free weekend, everyone!

Jennlin, wait and ask him after you're a new mom for 2-3 weeks (and make sure you have him get up a few times to help with the baby in the night)... all my girlfriends who have their first babies say they are so tired / stressed out the first few weeks because everything is new that they didn't have time for anything else, and they were all kind of SAHM's because of maternity leave.  So, maybe ask again then and perhaps H will see why you need one to help just once or twice, because according to my girlfriends, house cleaning is the last thing on your mind then!

  • Happy Friday, everyone!

Jenn and Kari, hope Vegas is a blast and that it's warmer than the Seattle area right now as I hear it is pretty cold...

SO HAPPY it is Friday.  Cannot wait for H to get home from work today - it's been a slightly stressful week for him / me, as he had a last-minute trip he had to make to Austin for work and then he had a presentation / talk last night that kept him at work until 11 PM.  I feel like I have not seen him much this week at all!

Today is pretty basic for me: gym this morning, lunch with a friend, then doing some volunteer tutoring at a local high school before going to happy hour.  I need to squeeze in some laundry sometime today, because I want to start packing for our Thanksgiving trip back home.  This weekend we have lunch with friends tomorrow and dinner with different friends tomorrow evening, and then Sunday we don't have any plans at all right now but we might go to dinner because it is our six-year anniversary of our first date (and 3 months married).  We don't do gifts or anything for anniversaries, but I figure it would be fun to go out to one of our favorite places.

I will likely spend any free time today pinning away on Pinterest, as I finally figured out how to install the bookmark and have to admit, I'm obsessed with the food being shared on that site.  So fun!  Everyone have a great day!

  • morning everyone. I am back from Portland, having ran into to Occupiers and police marches along with all the other fun stff.

Having a birthday party for my dog (3!) which just means feeding the boys coming over for Starcraft night and making them eat birthday cake :) I am going to make the  bolognese recipe that Kinmir posted.  This weather is perfect to try that.

As for house cleaners. My MIL in law keeps pushing it (no comment) and DH is open to the idea, but I am NOT a big fan of the idea, becuase I think its my responsibility (wit DH help) to take care of our own mess.  If I were preggo, had kids, big party. totally understandbale. but really, i feel like that's something i should be able to be on top of with my part time work schedule.

  • I'd like someone to come in once a month to deep clean the kitchen and bathrooms and steam clean our floors: wood and carpet.

But D is not thrilled about the idea, thinking it's a total waste of money.

This is a good plan!  And he'll be too tired to help.  Plus, he may feel a little guilty after watching you go through labor.  Timing is everything.

  • I have to take my car in.  I got a quoat a few days ago and it's way more expensive than I thought and that is very sad, but I keep putting it off (trunk doesn't close and passenger rear-view mirror is broken), so I'm afraid if I just don't do it, I'll never do it.

Then, going out to lunch and Twilight this afternoon.  This weekend is a wedding and then my birthday on Sunday.

  • YAYYY Friday!! <3

Today, I'm going to take a nap, bake a pie, and possibly go buy some eggnog. :D

Enjoy the heck out of Vegas, Jennlin! <3

WRT house cleaners -- have you considered putting gift certificates to a cleaning service on your baby registry? :D

We got a groupon deal from The Cleaning Authority, and they did a really good job, fwiw. I was happy! They're not insanely expensive for regular service, but I also just want a once-a-quarter kind of thing... and I need to get a quote from then for that, heh.

  • TGIF!  I'm in a real b*tchy mood right now, because it's not looking like I'll be able to get 2 or 3 days off during the last week of December (when business is DEAD because of the holidays) to go to whatever Bowl Game the Huskies get to play (the most likely are all during the last week of Dec).  I could go on and on about the BS of this situation (but I'm sure no one wants to read a 1,000 word essay), but technically my request hasn't been denied yet so there is still hope.

I have a hair appointment early on Saturday, and then plan on watching the Huskies beat on some Beavers Smile  Then I'm going to be a pathetic OMH and play hostess for a TK GTG later in the weekend and talk about all things Wedding.

  • Jennlin, I can relate.  My H kept saying no, until I finally said "Is this really something you're willing to argue over, because I'm going to keep bringing it up"  I don't really ever do that with H and we typically really respect each other, but once he saw how important it was to me, he got over it.

We had the lady come on Wednesday and H (who was trying to be cheap) kept saying "oh we don't need this" but when he saw how nice of a job she did and how clean everything was, he even agreed to pay her for an extra hour (because our house is too big and she didn't get a chance to clean the whole thing while she was here).  We are only having her come 1x month.  we can do maintenance  cleaning in between, but having the blinds dusted/baseboards washed is something I HATE doing and would totally prefer to pay someone to do.  Plus, as much as we can do a clean, we aren't very thorough, so it's nice to know someone else is being that thorough when we don't have the patience!

  • HELLO!

You all know I love Fridays.  Today is especially awesome because a) I got a new washer that is so pretty and I love, b) Tman gets out of school at 1:30 which I love and also means that I only babysit 'til 1:30 which I love as well, c) I got the most thoughtful gifts from my husband and son yesterday for my birthday (an electric blanket, slippers that I can wear outdoors - and intend to, loaf pans, and a silpat mat), and James got me a coconut cream cake from Met Market and had them even write happy birthday to me on it, and d) my parents are coming over tonight for our second annual "Sausage Fest."  We bought seven different kinds of sausages.  OH AND e) James worked last night, so he's been home on and off today (and running errands) which is SO NICE.

Besides tonight, we have no plans for the weekend - which is fine by me.  :)

    1.  The name "sausage fest" made me snicker a little bit because I'm mature.

    2.  It also sounds delicious.

  • Hi my name is Kari and I'm hung over. Not so much as my DH, he's seen better days. He demanded room service at 2am, and I think that was a good idea for him! I'm hoping to see Jenn tonight and mudpuddlestomper.

Are you taking B12? That helps me a lot!

Sounds like a fun night Big Smile

  • Happy Friday! I'm in a GREAT mood today (so RARE!). Probably because I'm wearing my brand. new. boots. that I had been lusting/coveting over for a year! And the rest of my outfit is (I'm wearing my new BR cardigan and the ruffly abstract blouse) and I for once, feel just so darn stinking cute. LOL. But seriously, I pretty much HATE my warddrobe, or the pieces I like are comfy but not fashionable and are super old.

Going to hang out on Capitol Hill all by my lonesome this evening. Meeting some people at my uncle's apartment to try and sell off some of his furniture for him. I've got people coming at 6:30, 6:45ish, and 7:30. I'll have like an hour between work and the first person to find some food. (Anyone up for some drinks?)

Hope to get my bookshelf painted this weekend and crossing fingers that the people who are looking tonight will buy so that I can meet them Sat or Sunday for pickup.

  • I live by emergen-c multi-vitamin before bed and when I wake up. It has 100% of B12. Two Tylenol and a jug of water. We had an amazing dinner, I will be talking abut the beef tartar for years to come. I think it was the bottle of red wine in our friends hotel room that did me in. They were drinking vodka and Hawaiian punch, I was smart enough to not make that switch.

  • It's Friday! Yay! I had a pre-op appointment with my urologist this morning and then I have an acupuncture appointment in an hour. DH and I are probably going to a friend's house tonight to play poker, should be fun.

Yesterday I realized that next week is a short one because of Thanksgiving. I mean, I KNEW that but had forgotten for a sec.

    Have a good day!
